Dang! When I read the subject line I thought that this was going to be a post to say “It’s time to go back!”
So disappointed.

How did it compare to previous years? I missed this one.

This question reminds me of an event long ago. I was working for a company that sent me to the US for a week (to teach an internal company course) after which I was due to come home. A VERY hard week, and I was looking forward to the 747 home. ON Thursday the HR director called asking a favour: could I stick around another week and teach the course again? I said yes. Then, the following Thursday, they called again asking TWO favours: first, could I delay my return by another week and teach the course a third time? Oh, and could I spend the weekend with some customers - meet them. Show them around Chicago, dinner, etc. OK, I said, but what is in it for me? He said: a nice hotel in Chicago and you can pick your own route home. Hmm, I said: Montego Bay? They laughed as they said they had a bet going that I was going to pick Cancun.
So I did the work then got the flight to Mo Bay, and found a great deal on a room at the Holiday Inn. I got there (still in a suit) and tried to check-in. The two folks at the reception were talking and I was impatient. They looked at me inquisitively - I said I wanted my room. They laughed a little. They gave me the same answer:
Sure man. But Chill, Soon come.
It was worth the wait!"

Waiting on the badge too. This will be my 14th/16 SpiceWorld badge. I did notice on the new community page that our existing badges may not move over? Boo! if that is the case. Worked hard for all of mine. The next question will be… where will SpiceWorld be next year? Supposedly the Austin Convention Center will be shut down and “the committee” is looking… Rumor was it was moving to Las Vegas or Denver. I vote to stay in Austin and host it in a larger hotel again like it was with the AT&T Center Hotel at UT. (at least the general assembly room won’t be half empty of chairs…

They made mention during the session on the new community that the badges and points and such would all be brought over at a later date.

So, if you happen to look at @jamie-spiceworks ’s activity, you might have seen us testing something today:

I must admit I was a bit surprised it wasn’t in his comment!

Much like last year, it was smaller and a bit subdued. It’s my sincere hope that SpiceWorld grows back to its former size and energy as we all get over the COVID mess. It’s going to be difficult to surpass the feel of SpiceWorld 2017, 2018, etc.

Very True! Hard match what it felt like in 2018. Given that you’ve been to every one, were these the golden years for you as well? 2015 is when I started going

@ode2joy is correct, @ronnynauert . For the first iteration of the Playground, we did not migrate as much data over. As we continually update it, we will be doing some wipes and additional data migrations. We started concentrating on a few of the automated badges and will be moving more and more over Soon™.

In speaking with several vendors, the booth cost is outrageous. They are barely able to pay the cost and travel to regain ROI. I would whole heartedly approve a much smaller venue with double the vendors (with more hardware varieties) if they are getting a bigger ROI due to booth costs being lowered. As well, I will comment if Google Chrome is the Platinum sponsor, not having a booth is very odd. I went to their Tech Theater and had many questions that would’ve been great to get answered in person versus playing email tag with the guy. Some constructive critical thoughts/suggestions comparing 14 Spiceworlds… having more sessions that weren’t so vendor-centric would be great. There used to be a huge variety of processes, methods and how-to’s in the past. With Cyber Insurance being a big deal, having someone from within Insurance to come explain of all that would be very beneficial.

The last 2 or 3 years before Covid were certainly epic. Large crowds. Over 70 exhibitors. Tons of energy. That was SpiceWorld at its best.
However, I always remember the first 2 or 3 with great fondness. Very intimate conferences with tons of access to top level management and product developers at Spiceworks. The amazing openness and transparency is unique in the IT conference world.

So I know I got the expected “Soon™” response, but what gives??

I gave you one so you don’t have to suffer… but we haven’t gotten the official list yet as far as I know, so we’re still waiting on that part in order to give the badges out. I’ll check on the status of that today.

It’s my fault. I got the initial list and asked for a follow-up. Once I got that, I forgot to hand it over to Z. Doing that now! Granted, because it is a mass granting of badges, I’d expect it to happen on off hours or over the weekend.

Well, I certainly didn’t expect special treatment, but glad I could serve as a bit of a reminder!! Thanks, Z and Sean!

Glad you got it.
If anyone didn’t get theirs, feel free to send in a ticket (community@spiceworks.com), and we can get you one. In the body of the ticket, tell us what email you used for SpiceWorld so we can look it up for you, and what email your account is under here.
I promise that your badge request won’t place you on any marketing lists… we’re just checking against the attendee lists.
