Hi All,

I’ve noticed running this … when real-time protection is turned on the CPU Usage spikes up into the high 90’s… for minutes / hours at a time if left on.

This is on a E5-2660 - 2.20 ghz

should one expect that type of performance on that hardware with RTP turned on?

I’m guessing it probably has to do with the scheduled scan, that will run for hours. Go into System Center, go to the Endpoint Protection section.

You can find this by going to SCCM > Assets and Compliance > Endpoint Protection > Antimalware Policies > $yourPolicy (mine is Domain Computers).

The real time scan will only scan incoming/outgoing, or both. Depending on what you’ve selected for that policy. The scheduled scan is where you can limit CPU usage, but not in RTP unfortunately. However, you can allow users to configure the CPU usage during scans if need be. Here’s some screen shots.

Thanks for the answer , RTP is what I am after, and I am wondering if there is a better alternative that won’t chew up so much CPU usage when RTP is turned on?

I was thinking of trialing Vipre.

Scheduled scan works fine and is not a problem - running real time protection is.

Hey Rodney, glad to hear you’re interested in trialing VIPRE! Please let us know what you think and if there is anything you need, let me know! I would love to send you some VIPRE goodies if you’re interested - email me at social@ThreatTrack.com with your shipping address!

Thanks,
