Well, last night I watched the episode from Sunday and I’m still in disbelief of what I saw at the end of the episode. Most likely the most gruesome thing I’ve seen on television, and just watching the blood pour out of the Viper’s exploded head made my stomach turn.
Now, I haven’t gotten a chance to read the books yet, so I know that I would appreciate this thread being a no spoiler zone as far as the books go, but yeah, wow. Discuss this week’s episode and its craziness?
Also, when Arya just lols at the fact that her aunt is dead, that was some good comic relief.

I’ve read the books but didn’t recall the head crushing–just that the Viper blew it. I remember being fired up reading it because I thought the Viper would win and then it was all a blur because I couldn’t believe he screwed up. He definitely needed a helmet! Stay tuned… I think the final 2 episodes this season will be really good.

It’s been a while since I read this particular book, but this scene seemed to me very much like I remember from the book. Very gruesome. I think Martin likes to make it very clear just how savage humans can be. Both physically savage like the Mountain and psychologically savage like Little Finger or Cersei (although the books do a better job of showing this, the TV show she comes off as more an idiot and less a spiteful bitch with some form of psychosis).
One of the reasons I’ve always liked ASOIAF was because I think it truly taps into what life may have been like in early human history. The strongest survive, usually by brute force. Morality was a fleeting thing only some folks upheld. Unless you were on a horse covered in armor (or in command of men on horses covered in armor) your life probably sucked and you had a good chance of dying in a very unpleasant manner simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I can’t even imagine how it must have been for women.

Oh yes they are indeed going to be good. I can’t wait, although I am really enjoying my “just wait…” phrase I bring up to all my friends that watch it and haven’t read the books.
I did see his death coming, as soon as he started walking around asking The Mountain to confess I new it was going to be bad news.

My wife is always asking me about what is going to happen. I never tell her and it drives her crazy. She’s still traumatized from Sunday night. Same thing with all of those Theon Greyjoy toture scenes.

My mind went “he’s gonna do it, he’s gonna do it” then I remembered "It’s Game of Thrones, He’s not gonna do it he’s not gonna do it…and there go his eyes"

I too was shocked and stunned (and a little disappointed as I quite like the Viper).

Now that was a bit bloody, eh?
Finally got around to watching it last night (already read the books, but my friend who I watch it with just got back from 10-day vacation, and he hasn’t!). Was so good I watched it again while finishing my laundry.
I don’t think a helmet would have helped…
In the books Martell died when the Mountain grabbed him and proceeded to beat his head in.
Either way, the end result was the same, and extremely unpleasant to watch.
