SPICE-E BACoN Final Results!
Happy moon’s day, folks! If you haven’t already seen it on your “My Feed” section, the real Daily Challenge is BACK! Go check out @Sean-Spiceworks’s (happy birthday, btw) post all about it here and/or @Lois-Spiceworks’s Community Release Notes!
The Recap:
Friday’s question asked about the “official package manager for Windows 10/11” and around 85% of you correctly chose WinGet!
Brew (or Homebrew) is a cross-platform package manager primarily used in MacOS (see https://brew.sh/)
Choco (or Chocolatey) is a popular 3rd party package manager for Windows, but is not official (see GitHub - chocolatey/choco: Chocolatey - the package manager for Windows) 1
WinGet (or, as I like to pronounce it, “Wing it!”) is the official Windows package manager, and is typically available automatically when you’re signed into a Microsoft account, or when you have the “App Installer” package downloaded. In every system I’ve tried to use it on in my testing, it asked if I wanted to install the App Installer package if it wasn’t already and tried to use WinGet.
NoCAB is BACoN spelled backward. It may be the end of this run of the Brain Activity Challenge of kNowledge, but maybe there’s more to come? Also, Daily Challenge is back!

The Ramble:
I’ve got one last Ramble for y’all here, because I couldn’t not share this.
We’re babysitting some friends’ furbabies this week, so instead of just having one golden retriever sitting with me, like usual, I’ve got 3 today!
From left to right, we’ve got my boy Captain Crunch, then Pretzel, and Cookie. Remember how I mentioned we’ve got a food theme in the family? It extends to the friends as well!

Oh! I guess you can also just make out the nose of our giant plush dog, Kitty in the top right corner!
Sorry the picture is a bit blurry, but it is impossible to get them all sitting still and looking at a camera for more than a few femtoseconds at a time!
For anyone as deep into golden lore as my SO, Crunch is a dark “golden” golden, Pretzel is a light “red” golden, and Cookie is a white golden, and also happens to be a sibling of my sister’s dog, Princess Peach.
Maybe it’s colorblindness, but I have no problems telling Crunch and Pretzel apart myself, but both of the other humans in my household keep saying they look exactly the same.
The Real Question:
The real question today is who would be interested in being a “host” for a less tech-focused trivia series? It seems like most of you would be interested in what I proposed on Friday’s question, and a bunch of folks commented that they’d like to see a more general trivia. I’d be happy to co-ordinate it, but tech trivia is definitely my area of expertise, so I’d love to see it be a community event.
We’ve already got one person confirmed to be interested, and I’ve reached out to some others who seemed like they might be. If you’re interested, please let me know!
EDIT: I guess I could add a poll! Warning, unlike the rest of these polls, this one is not anonymous!
Would you be interested in a regular non-tech trivia quiz
- Interested!
- Interested, and I’d volunteer to host and write some questions!
- Maybe
- Not really
The Rest:
If you’d like to be notified when there’s a new question, watch your feed, because the real Daily Challenge is back, and that’s where it’s at! This is the end of the current iteration of SPICE-E BACoN, so my usual advice that I put here won’t help much!
If you have suggestions for a Daily Challenge question, though, you can still let me know!
And since you’re still reading this, don’t forget to leave me a spice-up just below this! If it’s not filled-in like this →
it’s not spiced up yet! It lets me know you’ve enjoyed these and gives us both points, so why not?
