Hello,

I have recently implemented SpiceWorks to monitor our servers. When I setup the scans for the servers all of the servers completed scanning correctly except for 2. These two servers have me at whits end trying to figure out why SpiceWorks can’t communicate with them.

I have read the following links and nothing has worked for me. In the Troubleshooting WMI link I went through all of the configurations and verified all settings were correct.

I am using a Domain Admin account and all the servers being scanned, including the ones that work, are in the some Domain and using these credentials.

No Group Policy Implemented

The Windows Firewall Service is disabled

A/V is simply Virus protection and does not include a firewall or any other protection.

Reverse DNS resolves correctly for these servers.

On the WMI tests I get 0123456789 as a serial number every time for servers. This includes the ones that SpiceWorks is able to communicate with.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. While messing around with things I decided to change the scan setting from using the IP address of the server ot the FQDN of the server. Once I did this everything scanned properly. I’m not sure which SpiceWorks requires that because an NSLookup resolves correctly for both servers.

Thank you for your help and I’m sorry it’s such a simple problem. Hopefully this helps someone else someday.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer
Hello,

I have recently implemented SpiceWorks to monitor our servers. Sorry, have to ask.

Have you done a port scan on those machines? It might yield some results as to what’s going on. WMI has a dynamic port range and it’s pretty large, as you may of read on the links above.

If you’re getting a response w/ WMI tests, your firewall is allowing SW traffic and you have admin creds— I’m at wits end too! Good luck on this one…

{"@type":"Person
timgravenites7193
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/timgravenites7193"}},{"@type":"Answer
Jay,

Are you actually getting scan errors on these systems, or are the acting like thaty are scanning successfully and not updating?

Thanks

{"@type":"Person
robert-spiceworks
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/robert-spiceworks"}},{"@type":"Answer
Robert,

I am getting the following scan error, “Windows does not respond.
