Interesting one today…

i just completed introducing new employees to their usernames and passwords and walking them through changing their passwords away from the default when i was told we had a bus broke down and it would be appreciated if i could drive a wheelchair lift equipped van to help get everyone home. of course, the answer was SURE! but i did ask why me…the answer…because you are a tech guy and know how to work the lift and the tie downs. true, but still not quite part of the job description. But i had a great time and those poor individuals who had to put up with my driving seemed to have a good time too!

This for certain is not the oddest or worst ‘Other duty’ that i have had, but on a 89 degree day it was an interesting one! Speed Stick, where has the love gone?!? you left me right when i needed you most!

I like having to assemble desks, put the microwave, coffeemaker, and refrigerator into new office spaces. Just because they are electric or they hold what I will be putting on them. What’s maintenance doing? And I hope nothing breaks down at corporate while I’m over here putting desks together at a place with no internet access yet. Okay, done ranting on your post. My apologies.

I make the coffee in the morning.

And it’s darn good coffee. Put a pinch of salt in it when you make it, and it helps take the bitter taste out.

Maybe that could help me kick my addiction to Code Red

I’ve done quite a bit of furniture moving. But then again the maintenance guy and I have an agreement that we help out each other whenever we can.

Cutting CD’s, DVD’s of classic cars, rally pics, vids for directors.

Downloading Golf courses into those golf GPS devices.

Catching a squirrel and herding ducks, forcibly escorting a threatening man in our reception off the premises, dealing with an RTA outside the office…

Why not buy better coffee?

I’ve managed to divert all those jobs too our handy man… but if he aint here i get all the re-quests… and the response too them all is “NO!” or in more professional terms “Sorry I am IT i do not fix coffee machines, light bulbs or the toilets”

i wish i could say that but when the CEO asks me to i cant really tell him NO! or I am IT because i am the only one capable and smart enough to actually fix them haha

Use Degree , it works better.

We do get to move furniture around sometimes. At the old building, they would come to us if all their space heaters blew the circuits and then we just hoped and prayed that the building maintenance left the electrical room open a crack so we could get in. If not ,we had to wait for someone to show up to unlock it which could take 30 minutes or more. Our new building we own instead of lease so we have an onsite maintenance guy/building manager, plus we have access to all the electrical rooms because that’s where our patch panels are on the various floors.

the nice thing is everything is in our server rooms, the bad thing is we went from owning a building to leasing one so we don’t have control over everything now. its kind of a pain. I liked the owned building more but i think it was costing them more that it was now and we grew so we needed a larger building anyway. as for access to the electrical room…i have access to the ones on the second and third floor but for some reason they don’t give me access to the one on the first floor…kinda annoying but w/e if i need to get in i just call the building manager.
