All, my HR asked me to buy a 15" MacBook she didn’t tell me who it is for and doesn’t want me to check with COO/CFO/CEO but CFO has to authorise my purchases. So when I asked him CEO got involved (he told me it is for MD) and he isn’t happy and he asked me to buy standard windows laptop in capital letters. Yeah, I’ll have quite word with HR, don’t want to ruin our good relationship. So I am thinking it will be an Ultrabook. I’ve been using XPS 13 for a while and i am quite happy with it although it doesn’t have too many connectivity ports. What do you guys recommend for ultrabooks?

We run XPS 13s for all our sales and execs. Yes it lacks ports but We have never found that to be much of an issue. We supply a mini-display to VGA adaptor with the laptop and everybody has been happy so far. We have just started trialling the Venue 11 with the battery keyboard. Seems to be going down well.

Our Execs love their Lenovo X1 Carbons. They have limited ports too, 2 usb, 1 mini DP, but are so light and well made that this is overlooked.
I’d suggest a clean build once you get them, the Lenovo SW caused me all kinds of problems with DWM failing, wireless falling over, until I removed it

We use Dell XPS13 and Dell Dockstations
Tried and rejected the XPS 13, ran with an XPS 15. It’s OK.
I feel you on the MacBook Pro though - once had to issue one (for no good technical reason), but put a Windows install on it, removed the MacOS, then handed it out. Wasn’t asked for another one after that.

I tried XPSs for execs, and we were even going to get them for systems, but we found their lack of ports disturbing. Also- the D3000 USB docking stations for them are ABYSMAL.
We ended up going with Latitude 7440s with i7s, SSDs, and 16GB of RAM. We got E-Port+ docks and we are very pleased.

I run a dell shop, but I wasnt crazy about what I saw in business class thin/light laptops. I went ahead and purchased an HP elitebook for a manager, and it’s been great. Ordering from hp was a nightmare, but the laptop is solid.
We got a few HP Spectre XT’s with usb docking station about a year ago I think. 9 out 10 have had problems. At least they look nice…
This has caused a stop of all purchases of ultrabook models for us.

The HP Elitebook 9470m has been great for us. I believe the replacement is the HP Elitebook Folio 1040.
I am a Dell guy - but open to try other vendors. I have an HP EliteBook and for the most part like it. I feel it was made cheap - but over all i like it.
Took almost a week to get the replacement HDD as it died in less than 6 months. I have next day parts too and it was in stock.

Zero major problems with Dell’s support. I like their 7440s- nice aluminum finish. But the SSDs are only coming in 256 right now for these.

Right… almost decided unless someone can really convince me otherwise. Have been thinking about trying Venue 11 pro with dock. Maybe it’s the good time and we don’t have to buy him an iPad (our directors get one usually) again.
I have been going for the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabooks for our higher management. Go for the one with SSD, and 8GB RAM. No complaints, very quick, great battery.

Lenovo Carbon x1 all the way buddy.

We do Dell here. Haven’t tried the UltraBooks yet. We tend to stick with the Latitude series. Our users aren’t ready for an UB yet.

X1Carbon definitely the way to go. As far as the Lenovo software goes, I actually like the power manager, but the rest gets annoying.

Not trying to pick a fight, but I strongly doubt that.
Thanks for the Lenovo/X1 Carbon mentions! I’d suggest looking into something like the X1 Carbon as well. We also have either the ThinkPad Yoga or T440s depending on what ports you’re looking for. What does the budget look like for this system?

Bought a 15" lattitude laptop finally as my line manager isn’t impressed with windows tablet. It’s been more than a month our MD has been using it and he is not happy carrying it when travelling. Tried new HP Elitepad 1000 G2 and we’re very pleased with it. Hence we bought one.
