I have one person everytime she does the windows key+l to lock her computer it freezes up. My solution was the easy one, stop doing that as per I have no idea why it does it, but it does it everytime so yeah…any ideas from the community?

Please change your title to something a little more informative. Maybe win+L key causes freeze?

First thing I would check is her power saving settings. Try turning them all off to see if there is any change.

Does this happen with a different user logged in to same system? If not, try clearing down her profile.

Otherwise try something like sfc /scannow to make sure nothing is corrupt.

Clutching at straws- run a system repair tool like IObit Advanced System Care

What happens if you run the command instead of hitting Win + L?

rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

If it doesn’t lock up, maybe create a shortcut on her desktop as a work around.

Nothing came up from the sfc \scannow. Nothing any different from all the other workstations in the power settings.

Next trip past i’ll try the command.

Sounds like an excellent candidate for a rebuild. Some things are just not worth spending time on.

Check in safemode to eliminate as much (and as easily) as possible before delving too deep.!!

You have only mentioned Win+L as causing a freeze. Does the same thing occur when choosing Lock from the Start Menu or Ctrl-Alt-Del screen? At what point does the computer freeze?- after it locks or is it still displaying the user’s session? I wouldn’t assume that it’s not the keyboard just because it’s Windows that’s freezing.

I’ve had success with http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ on similar Windows issues.

only when using windows l. not from the file i made to run the program or any other way. I’m sticking with just dont do that, if there was ever a problem at the bottom of my list it is this one.

If it is only happening with the keyboard… have you tried changing keyboards? Seems weird, but it’s certainly easy enough to try.

Can you reproduce this if you login as another user on the same computer? If not, then add the registry hack enable or disable Lock Workstation
