Hello,

I did search and didn’t see anyone specifically talking about using Unitrends Forever Cloud.

Basically I want to know how well it works (replicate consistently) and if replication times are reasonable.

Previously had issue with a different backup product with cloud replication taking 100hours to replicate 700GB over 100Mbps connection that was dedicated to the task.

Edit: Edited to note that the slow replication was not Unitrends was different product. Which is why I’m looking at Unitrends again.

Thanks I will for sure let you know if no one answers. Also I realized it sounded like at first I was having trouble with Unitrends so I edited to note that it was other backup solution which is why I’m looking at Unitrends again.

Matt,

Would you consider other true incremental-forever backup solutions? Also, you are going to need to seed the initial backup via portable media to avoid the first lengthy transfer. Let us know if you are open to other solutions.

I’m open for trying anything if it works… I started another thread discussing all my options as well as this is specific to Unitrends. Also I have a 100Mbps fiber connection dedicated to replication by estimates it shouldn’t take more then a couple days to replicate 700GB’s unless the over head for the transfer process is huge. At max I will probably have 2TBs of data to replicate.

1.) Unfortunately my giant backup thread blew up and noone responded to my request for real world experiences of Unitrends. So would be interested in hearing about some experiences people have had.

2.) Secondly I noticed this on Unitrends page: “Soon you will also be able to create off-site back-up copies or protect workloads using Unitrends Enteprise Backup running in the Microsoft Azure cloud.”

How soon is soon. I’m in a unique situation working for a charitable organization Microsoft provides 5000/year of free Cloud services. One caveat is that I can’t simply buy a prebuilt appliance from the Marketplace as azure marketplace items do not qualify for the donated amount. I would have to spin up my own and install it manually. Will this be an option since it obviously will be able to run in Azure.

In terms of the Azure release date, I was out on maternity leave until 2 days ago, and am still catching up on all that I missed.
