We’re using the Unitrends VA (free for 8 VMs edition) at our organization and have run into an issue with the archives not purging anymore. Our current Archive settings are as follows:
Time Range: Last 7 days
Backing up 2 Hyper-V VMs
Target is a Synology NAS via network share
Backing up Hyper-V Fulls and Incrementals for both VMs
Archive option set to Purge and Compress
Retention period is 1 week.
Backup Schedule (if needed)
Backing up 2 Hyper-V VMs using the schedule (Sunday - Full, Monday through Friday - Incremental)
Retention Settings:
Minimum: 10 days
Maximum: 19 days
Legal Hold: 7 days
We have been using these settings for several months now and have not had any issues with the older archive sets purging to make room for the new archives but for the past 3 weeks it has been hit/miss on the older archives purging correctly. I’m not able to get a definitive answer from the Unitrends VA on what is happening.
If go in and manually delete some older archive sets (usually a few from 3 months ago) which frees up space, then the new archives will work fine until there is not enough free space again. Has anybody else run into this issue before or have any suggestions? I’m not sure if the Unitrends VA I have qualifies for tech support or not…

Philip - Thanks for using the Spiceworks Edition of Unitrends Enterprise Backup. Have you contacted our support team about this? Email (support@unitrends.com) & chat support (via our support community) are both included in your edition of UEB. This sounds like something that our engineers will need to look at to assist you best.
Hi Katie. I have not contacted support because I could not remember if this edition of Unitrends included support. I will reach out to them and have them investigate. Thanks.
