Hello everyone can you please help i just added my warehouse network to spiceworks and its coming up with unknown device some machines are windows 2000 and some xp. Must of the machines in the warehouse are wireless.

Authentication errors;

Use the 7th or 10th link (it`s the same) of Air Jimi (Resolving Spiceworks Unknowns Unofficial - Script Center …) and comment out the lines 36 - 38 to keep UAC. Then follow the 6th link of Air Jimi (http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/317).

If you can live with disabled UAC, just run the script (with all lines active).

I suggest to follow this: Troubleshooting Spiceworks Inventory Inconsistencies - Spiceworks … and set scan speed to slow additionally.

I just started working for this company and they don’t have everything straight with there network, the batch of computers I’m trying to access in the warehouse are not on a domain they are all work-group. The error im getting is can not resolve dns, i did nslookup with the ip address and it says domain non existent is this my issue, do I need to change to workgroup to a domain.

If the PCs in the warehouse are not in the domain as you say and IPs are issued by DHCP and the DNS server has been secured, then the PCs in the warehouse will not have DNS entried made for them since they will not comply with the AD authorised DNS entry criteria. This will seriously effect the ability to resolve names for the PCs in the Warehouse.

In addition you will need to use an account with local admin rights on thise non-AD PCs for scan to work and set them up specifically for this local admin users for the scan.

Have a look at this: Adding Devices and Changing Login Accounts

You will also be able to go to the scan error page of each of those inventory items and edit the account details used for scanning from there. The local admin account on the PCs will need to already exist before this can be made to work.
