Has anyone created a Widget to monitor an APC (or other mfg) UPS? Looking for something that will show charge state, runtime, perhaps Temp/Humidity (if the UPS has that capability). The SmartUPS can optionally have a Telnet/Web interface card and support SNMP.
Thanks.

I just did a couple of searches, and don’t see anything like what you are looking for.
You could have your UPS software send a report (assuming that is offered) to Spiceworks in the form of an email based ticket. I think APC still calls their software PowerChute.
That would be a great feature!
If your APC device has an ethernet port on it, it will have a web interface you can access. I haven’t come across one that hasn’t had it yet. Only thing is that you will have to configure an ip address on it. I haven’t done one in a while but I think you may need to either plug into it directly or use some kind of software to detect them.
“APC Device IP Configuration Wizard” is the name of the tool to get you going to get on over the web.
If someone does come up with a widget for this I would love it. I like having everything monitored from one spot. Makes my life easier.
I have several APC SmartUPS with ethernet interface modules in them (AP 9617/9618/9619). But rather than logging into each UPS’s interface (via a web browser or telnet), it would be great (I think) to setup a Spiceworks page where I can at a glance see status. The Widget would need to allow the end user to enter the IP Address/Username & Password.
Yes, there are several varieties of PowerChute depending upon whether you are directly connected; i.e. RS-232 or USB or using an Ethernet interface. I don’t recall seeing any scheduled reporting capability though.
I wonder if APC is a partner… this would be a fantastic Spiceworks addition!
I think you may find they are not interested. They sell their own services for remote monitoring of UPS’.
My units have the AP9617 cards which support SNMP, v1 and v3. I’m hoping that SW5 will be able to pull info from the v3.
There’s the capability to send data to a syslog server, and there’s also email capability. No scheduled reporting that I can see, only in the event of an alert.
That is a good idea and APC must be a partner or at least client of Spiceworks based on the number of adds and white papers. Maybe they would be into sponsoring a widget or plugin for it, it would be a cool marketing move.
Hands up all the Spiceheads who’d be looking at the UPS vendor that was supported by monitoring in Spiceworks, when looking to purchase?
I think a UPS (I use APC) plugin would be an excellent idea!

John,
Can you create a feature request for this and then post a link back to this thread for that request.

Can you post a link to the Feature Request so we can Spice it up.

What type of APC/UPS devices do you guys use? Any specific brands?
I’m wondering if they have a generic interface or if each device has a different web client. If so, support would have to be at a vendor level but with a couple of surprises coming in 5.0 this will be possible with a Spiceworks plug-in.
Which ones would you guys like to see most?
APC SmartUPS is what I’ve used for > 15 yrs. I don’t know whether there is a ‘standard’ MIB that is used across vendors.
I have APC on my Servers and MGE in my wiring closets - MGE (now owned by APC) made a product (under Eaton) called Intelligent Power Manager as a peice of freeware. This allows me to view/update all of my MGE devices from a web page. as it runs as a service it is constantly checking the UPS’s and if signal is lost/power failure etc etc then an alert is generated. this alert is displayed on screen and if configured and email can be sent.
I haven’t implemented this as I have all of my UPS’s email my on failure/restore of power.
That said it would be nice to see to see something like this is SW
