I have a main Computer OU and recently added a sub OU for our Resource room computers to do some additional GPO’s for those. The computers in the sub OU are applying the GPO’s linked to it’s folder, but not inheriting many of the User GPO’s , like mapped drives and printer updates.

It is not complicated:

Computers

  • Resource Computers

Inheritance hasn’t been disabled.

One of the 3 Resource Computers GPO is a loopback, forcing a User setting to be applied to these computers.

The other 2 are adding a Domain User group to the local computer administrators group and disabling folder redirection.

A user can log into a non resource computer and everything is fine, same user logging into a Resouce computer doesn’t get the GPO’s. They don’t appear in the gpresults output at all.

Any ideas? Thanks.

8 Spice ups

Disabling the policy with the loopback enabled seems to allow all the User GPO’s to apply normally.

I am a newbie to loopback so maybe I am missing something or trying to use it the wrong way.

The end result is to apply a user GPO to specific computers while still applying the other normal user GPO’s like drive mapping, printer updates, etc.

Thanks.

Face palm!

When setting up the loopback GPO I selected ‘Replace’ instead of ‘Merge’. Now it works great. I said I was a newbie!

Thanks.
