I’ve seen a sudden uptick in the number of vendors who are emailing me directly in regards to Sharepoint.
The only thing I can think of is that the vendors are getting my contact information from SW and they are doing that because I have a thread talking about WIKIs and several people suggested that I look into Sharepoint.
Anyone else have this problem? Is SW giving our direct contact information to vendors? and are they suppose to be reaching out to us directly because of threads in SW?
It’s one thing to PM me here, or even write an offer of information in the thread, but to send me directed email - just Grinds my Gears. -Peter Griffin

Spiceworks, IIRC, don’t give out your info - but is the info out somewhere that could be found easily, and they’ve linked that to your profile?

Highly doubt it’s SW. Vendors are nosy and will get right up in your business. They probably looked you up on the internet, found your linked in profile, found your company name, found your company domain, and fudged in a combination of first initial/last name to figure out your e-mail address.
Happens to me and that’s exactly what they do because I have a series of redirects so sometimes I get multiple e-mails when they try my first and last name, first initial last name, etc.

yeah I know that already, but these forums used to provide respect, and direct contact was never an issue for the past 4 years, suddenly in the past 2 weeks I’ve received at least 5 different vendors trying to sell me on Sharepoint addons.

I didn’t go to Spiceworld, but I too have been getting Sharepoint emails.
I have nothing but company name on LinkedIn, so how they know we use Sharepoint, would probably come from a post here.
“I’ve been following your company on LinkedIn and after some research came to find out that you are using SharePoint”
I’m all over the SharePoint forum and I don’t get those emails.

I have gotten similar in the past when I was looking into VOIP options. Seems as if when I turn a vendor down, they sell my info and then all the calls flood in.

Hi There,
We absolutely don’t give out contact information. As others have pointed out, the community is open for everyone to read and people find a way to figure out the email address. Heck there are sites dedicated to sharing business card info.

Tabrez,
I’ll admit I was shooting from the cuff a bit, but I’m almost positive that I received these emails because of my post here in SW. and I’m sure they socially engineered me to get my email address (not that hard really).
Thanks for responding.

Tabrez, Thanks for that site. I was on there and I was able to remove it.
For anyone interested you can check that site if you are on it and be removed if you are: https://connect.data.com/amiin

I get emails and calls occasionally from people trying to help us with Exchange or Sharepoint, and we have never had either here. Some of it is just shooting blind.
Oh geez, I was just told this today by a vendor
