I’ve been on and off again trying this program, and have a question. I expected this spiceworks quoting feature to find the best price for me from all sorts of places. But it appears that it works much differently than I thought in that they contact various sources and those various sources respond back with a price. That there’s only a few we can choose from, and then only get quotes from 5 at a time.

I expected a service like quotewerks or autotask that when i look up a part number it shows me all sorts of stores with their pricing. And I would be able to add in my distributors as well.

Am I missing something in the purpose of this program?

The current quote process from SW offers the abilities you outlined in the first half - It was designed to allow the user to submit RFQs to their regular vendors, and some select vendors from Spiceworks.

It does not currently have the capability to show prices from multiple internet sites. This is more of a job for Google.

As most IT Pros have regular vendors, at least for major equipment purchases, this was thought of as the best way to get all of the pricing in one place.

For me, the RFQ feature is a great benefit. I buy regularly from New Egg, CDW, PC Connection, and Tiger Direct - I have found that they will consistantly provide the best pricing with the best warranties, and becuase I am dealing with my regular reps, I get great service.

Now when I am buying mice, I can get those anywhere and a google search usually yeilds some good choices.
