Hi All -
We recently brought on board a videographer. And now are looking to level up the gear available. So was wondering the specs you’d go for in a desktop given that this person will be using Adobe Premiere and editing rather heavily.
I figure at least an i7 quad with 32GB, so I suppose I’m looking mainly for video card recommendations.
Thanks for any thoughts!

Wait, he’s not whinging and crying about needing a Mac??? Count yourself lucky, friend!!! You’ve found a videographer worth their salt!!!
You’ll want a workstation type video card vs. a gaming video card.

I’ve never used a workstation card, always just had a gaming card, so I used it. How dramatic a difference does it make? I edit 2K and sometimes 4K video with absolutely no issues, 100% smooth editing, never have to wait on the computer, and I use a GTX 980 ti card (obviously meant for gaming). My only complaint is that a 1 hour video can take about 2 hours to render, but considering it’s a 1440p@60 fps video and it’s being compressed from 50-60 mbps bitrate down to 30-35 mbps bitrate with lots of cuts and effects, I figured that was reasonable. What would a workstation video card do for me that my gaming card does not? Better render times?
Workstation cards are optimized for editing / rendering. They would get crappy framerates while gaming, but better render times vs a gaming card. Probably cheaper too for similar or better performance.

I know! I was surprised that he didn’t care either way.
I’m slogging through that list now comparing specs to price and it looks like a lot of the cards Adobe lists are gaming cards. But we’ll find one.
Thanks!
If money isn’t a big concern, I would go Nvidia Titan. The teraflops on those are off the chart. It might be worth it to check out this video. The one when Linus talks about how the software he uses goes right to video card and skips all of those expensive CPU cores because they are nothing in comparison:
