It’s been an exciting week. Not only did we migrate to a new Community platform, but we now have another Pure Capsaicin: @DoctorDNS! If you’re not familiar with the name, this is the artist formerly known as tfl.

If you’re unsure what a Pure Capsaicin (also called a PC or Pure Cap) is, it is the highest level of engagement in the Spiceworks Community. Only a handful of members have reached it. This is because earning the required 250,000 points to achieve such a level requires commitment, tenacity, drive, determination, IT intelligence, and a genuine desire to help their peers.

@DoctorDNS joined the Spiceworks Community in August 2012, after me, yet he still beat me to Pure Capsaicin! Since joining, he’s created over 15,000 topics, 20,000 posts and has been awarded 673 Best Answers. He also has a great collection of Community badges!

We reached out to DoctorDNS to congratulate, thank, and shine a spotlight on him by having him answer a few questions.

  1. You’ve just hit Pure Capsaicin; how does it feel?
I am pretty excited. It’s been a 12-year journey to this achievement. I put in a lot of effort over a long time, and so I am most pleased with the reward.

  2. How did you initially get into IT? Was it always an interest of yours?
I was at university (CMU) working my way through it and found a job washing dishes. After a month, I found a better job working for the University computing centre - it paid 75 cents an hour more, and there was career growth. After that, it’s spent the rest of my life in the IT field.

  3. How did you discover Spiceworks?
I had just had a book published (on Powershell), and a lovely lady at SW asked me to come and do an AMA. I did that and started to look around. I liked what I saw and stayed.

  4. What inspires you to offer so much help to your peers?
I spent many years teaching and found so much help from the NNTP newsgroups (when those existed!) and later various online forums. I just feel it appropriate to give back and help others.

  5. You’re quite active around the site, but particularly in the Programming & Development area. Why is that?
That’s because this area is where we see the powershell area - I am a very long-time PowerShell fan. I attended the very first presentation of PowerShell in 2003 AND AM STILL IN LOVE. I am also a moderator for this forum where I enjoy providing the actual answers to the questions presented as well as providing background as to why a “best answer” is the best answer.

  6. Have there been times the Community has helped you solve a problem?
On more occasions than I care to admit! In many cases, errors in a script I just did not see - but found others did and way too quickly!!! And often, I get insight into features of Windows from others with more skills.

  7. What’s your favourite thing about the Spiceworks Community?
The people in the community! We have here lots of great folks who are very good at what they do and are happy to share their skills, knowledge, and expertise. And it’s largely drama-free! The Spiceworkers are also an awesome bunch - smart and well-focused. I have learned from them too!

  8. Where can we find you when you’re not at work or on Spiceworks?
You can find me in my old cottage in the English countryside. I have a huge collection of Grateful Dead live recordings, a good wine cellar, and a lovely garden. Retirement has its benefits.

  9. Any plans on how to celebrate hitting Pure Capsaicin?
I am taking a few days off to visit Seville. I plan to celebrate by having a good meal and drinking a good bottle of fine Spanish wine. I assume that Sean will foot the bill…

  10. Does Boones Strawberry Hill count as a fine Spanish wine? I kid! But now that you’ve hit Pure Capsaicin, what’s next?
Not sure really. I plan to stick around SW and contribute and hopefully train up a few youngsters to take over after I’m gone. Certainly in the shorter term, I’ll continue to read and post here.

  11. Any shout-outs to individuals who’ve helped you in the Community?
There are so too many. My co-moderators (@Neally and @martin9700) are wonderful folks. And of course, the Spiceworkers are awesome. But if I can pick out one person: it would be Sean for his calm leadership and focus on keeping it classy. I have learned much!

  12. I will have to meet this Sean person, he sounds amazing and I already like how he spells his name. Of course, you know I have to ask; do you like crunchy or creamy peanut butter?
For a start, I love peanut butter! I love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, peanut butter and bacon (crispy) sandwiches, and peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Peanut butter ice cream is hard to beat and I adore a finger full of peanut butter direct from the jar! But given a choice, I prefer crunchy.

Let’s all give @DoctorDNS a big congratulations and a huge thank you. Members who help and give back are one of the main reasons this Community is so great!

Congrats @DoctorDNS !

I’d known you around the internet as DoctorDNS for a while, but until about a year or so back, I’d not put together that TFL and DoctorDNS were the same person!

I said it somewhere on here before, but I’ll say it again, you’ve been a huge inspiration and an awesome resource to me on my PowerShell journey, and I my $PROFILE still has a tribute to you in the comment at the top letting anyone who looks at it know that I’ve stolen the layout from one of your $PROFILE examples in one of your books… Though it’s been pretty heavily modified over the years

Thanks for everything, and congrats again on reaching PC!
