Just called to the conference room. Said they were letting me go because they have downsized and they are planning to move a lot of apps to the cloud, so they won’t need me. They do want me to stay on for 2 weeks to work with the msp that will be “taking my place”.
This same thing just happened to me 3 years ago. Only difference is that I had more of a feeling that this could be coming. I knew they wanted to move more to the cloud. I actually started working on the resume this week.
Boy do I have a knot in my stomach right now!

Always sucks. Good luck on finding something new sooner rather than later.
Yeah, because that always works.
We are always looking for people in Cary.

That sucks.
Maybe you could get a job with the MSP since you know the system already? I’d definitely slip them a copy of that spiffy resume.

Just make sure you part on good terms, you never know when they’ll need an “outside consultant”
My suggestion:
Apply for Unemployment, take a few “Mental Health” days, and hit the bricks and keep applying, you never know what new (and potentially better) things are out there for you that weren’t available three years ago.
Best of luck,

Sorry to hear that, good luck on finding something new.
And by the way, stomach knots are quickly cured with copious amounts of bacon and beer on a Saturday.

Good luck, and keep in contact- you might even find a job from here!

Plus now you can say you got that place working so well they didn’t even need an IT guy. That seemed to impress the people who hired me after working myself out of a job at the last place.

Sorry to hear that. Been there, done that. Make sure the MSP has your contact details & know they can call you if they have any questions. As GUIn00b said, perhaps that could lead to a job with them or at least a referral somewhere else. Either way, good luck in the next phase of life

Be forthcoming with information, but don’t give the MSP everything. They may call you in 2-4 weeks and offer you a job.
I know from being right where you are. The MSP offered me a job, and I actually got them up to $10k a year more than the employer paid me. I don’t care to work for MSPs so I declined, but it was fun negotiating

Been there, the best words of advice I got from a friend was:
“You were looking for a job when you found this one, there’s another out there.”
Good luck in the search, keep on good terms with the ex-employer.

Slip the MSP a copy of your resume like others said. You are also in the driver seat as well. Demand more money for the last two weeks, or even a severance package. If they say no walk out immediately, have to show them your serious, they might flag you down before you drive off and give in.

Thanks everyone. I kept the stiff upper lip as they were telling me and said I understood it’s just business. I asked (just to be certain) if there was anything I had done or not done and was told no. I then asked if they would be willing to provide a positive reference and they said definitely. So I know better than to burn bridges. I was told that the msp is downsizing too, so there goes that idea.

As for severance - they are giving me 2 weeks, paying out unused vacation and also will be paying for comp time that I am due.

Bummer, sorry to hear that. Good luck with the job search, likely a better position anyway! Everything happens for a reason, try to make the most of it.
