I’ve been here at spiceworks for awhile and I love it. However, the other day in a meeting, someone was trying to show that something could be easily fixed by tweaking something and lo and behold, including a spiceworks link. Hey great and all, but now I’m wondering if tthey know I’m here, which, you know…I could be in trouble. Maybe they just googled the answer?

Well you have minimum activity and no followers so you are relatively hidden. Just think of those of us who are logged on for the entire day everyday

Thanks - spiceworks has been so helpful for me and I feel safe here to express my opinion without it getting back to anybody. It was just weird.

There is no anonymity.
If you’re concerned, do this:
-
Create a new email that doesn’t identify you at all.
-
Create a new spiceworks account using that email.
-
Don’t post any identifiable information, pictures, names, or stories.
-
Don’t post during work hours.

Spiceworks links do show up in google searches quite a bit.

I must be kind of slow. You could be in trouble for perusing a website that has already proven itself to be useful to someone else in your company? I’m not doubting you at all, I just don’t understand management sometimes. Although it does help to explain why Scott Adams is worth $75 million.

I see a lot of spiceworks link in google searches. If you haven’t heard anything, I wouldn’t worry.
That said, why would you be in trouble? Do you spend all day in Water Cooler, like some of us?

Honestly I would find it quite hard for a company to fault an IT Pro for being on SW? Granted if they find you are posting in nothing but the Water Cooler area and posting inappropriate posts then you may have an issue, but SW is a great resource and I encourage the folks under me to use it and also read different post and articles so they can hopefully learn some things. Does you company have a policy where SW is specifically prohibited? Or is this more of a worry because you think they might see it as you wasting your time on here?
As for finding a solution on SW yes a large number of IT related issues will have SW posts as the top results on Google, probably second only to MS if it is a MS related issue.

No, she’s saying she’ll be in trouble for venting on here and saying things that could be embarrassing if Russian hackers pass them to WikiLeaks.

People know I use Spiceworks, not because of the fact that I’ve told them, but because they have googled their question to find an answer and on several occasions found Spiceworks with a solution, to make it even more odd, the answer for at least 2 questions (that I know of), my post was the best answer, so they know I use it because my answer solved their issue - they are only browsers and don’t use the community though. But these are people I work with.

I spend far too much time in the Water Cooler. That’s why my name is JoeBob on here. It’s the dumbest name that no one would think that i would use on a forum. It’s as unlike me as possible. I’d advise you to do the same.
