I have not been in a training class for the last 15 years and I have done all my IT training online by watching free video resources and Webinars but also subscribe to few that I find very valuable for Managing our company infrastructure (Physical and Virtual)

My best and favorite IT CBT training companies are

What is your favorite and why?

CBTNUGGETS.COM all the way

I use a mixture of Pluralsight and books. Cheaper for me that way. CBTNuggets is excellent in quality, though, and I’ve heard they are the best, but it’s $100/month. Get your employer to pay for it if you can.

Edit: I also agree with the guys below, Eli the Computer Guy is top notch. I usually go to his channel when I need a quick run-down or tutorial. → http://www.elithecomputerguy.com/

I used trainsignal for my Microsoft exam but i found that CBT nuggets was more easy going when i used them for some cisco training.

I actually like @elithecomputerguy and his you Tube Vids.

Agree x10, Eli is always on point

  • CBTnuggets
  • Pluralsight
  • Simplilearn

All the above, along with books…

Very recently I discovered (through another thread on Spiceworks) a free Video tutorial resource called http://www.cybrary.it/ , … Seems very promising…

Hey Abu -

We are pretty new to the Spiceworks Community so I wanted to share a 7-day free trial of KnowledgeNet’s training with you! My question for you is what do you look for in a training provider? I’m curious to know how IT pros pick training vendors. Thanks for your feedback!

Anna

Will check your online training later but normally we look for clarity of training and ease of delivery especially when accompanied with some good sense of hummer. CBTnuggets excels in this field especially with the use of the Whiteboard and the associated knowledge transfer from real world examples.

Abu - thanks for the feedback it’s much appreciated. I can imagine how humor is important, especially when you are training online. I’ve heard our students say we do have instructors that keep the class entertaining with humor but of course check it out first hand and evaluate it for yourself! Thanks again.

For what it is worth, I have clocked over 1000 hours of online CBT training covering all IT Disciplines/skills and seen and heard over 100 Trainers/Instructors and have not yet seen better than the these amazing 2 trainers.

Simon Allardice (From Lynda.com)

Jeremy Cioara (From CBT Nuggets)

They truly set the Bench mark for all other trainers.

Wow, that’s great. You obviously have a ton of experience and see the importance in training. Glad you have found solutions that work for you. Great feedback!

Abu,

I don’t know if it can be fully classified as Computer Based Training, but I’m currently using ITProTV - www.itpro.tv - as a video source to introduce me to new areas and reinforce old. I’m considering certifications, and itpro.tv has partnered up with measureup for practice tests. But, right now I’m mostly interested in learning and expanding my skill set. I’m interested in checking out CBTNuggets, Pluralsight, and the others mentioned. However, I received a really good deal on a 1yr subscription to ITproTV, so I’ll be using it while investigating other options for a while.

I’ve heard others on spiceworks mention Professor Messer on youtube as a good final review prior to certain exams. Having watched some of his videos, he certainly does move faster through the material than itpro.tv. That may be of benefit to some.

I’ve used Lynda.com when learning solidworks. I’d comment, but It’s been a while since I’ve used that site and only used the free content.

Itpro.tv is a more casual pace with an occasional full-throttle that comes out of no where (it’s not often, but it happens). It reminds me of a more entertaining form of a classroom where you can hit pause, take notes easily, go back and replay. They also have a Roku Channel (a good thing, and a bad thing) which lets you more easily follow along with your PC, VM, clean your guns, reloadin’ yer ammo, etc.

There is also Microsoft Virtual Academy, and the dreamspark program.

I’ve added KnowledgeNet to my list of sites to check out. I’ll also revisit Lynda.

Edit: Checking out ITPro.tv’s website, you can play the videos 25% faster with a firefox browser.

Pluralsight, books, MS Virtual Academy. I find reading and doing works best for me whereas some like the video route, depends on the person really. I’ve heard great things about CBTNuggets but unless your employer is paying its pretty expensive IMO.

Pluralsight and Microsoft Virtual Academy plus books too.
