Howdy All,
We have a client that has been using Skype on their computer for their international (Africa & Europe) calling needs. Now that they have to move on, what be a worthwhile solution to move to?

Their main focus is on ease of use, ease of implementation, migration (if possible), good call quality, reliability & similar or better rates. Looking forward to the suggestions.

I’d suggest the direct replacement, Teams, simply because it’ll work most like what they’re used to…

Teams seems like the logical replacement.

Note that like Skype MS decided to make two completely seperate versions and use the exact same name in order to keep things clear as mud.

Teams – Personal (Free I believe, for personal accounts only)
Teams – Work (paid - part of MS 365 business)

MS also rolled them into the same client. You’re supposed to be able to log into two separate accounts simultaneously. But it didn’t work on my home machine. I just access it via WebGUI, instead.

They still had separate app downloads last time I looked

Perhaps they rolled back the change? After converting to Win11, I tried to download the business version and got a message that they are in one app.

I was able to sign-in to both my work and personal accounts, but it was using the business app not the one shipped in Windows 11. I almost never use the personal account, but I was able to do it.

Newest Teams just uses a login, its a Microsoft Store app, and honestly, Skype was frankly not great to start with. Teams is very polished and worthy of becoming the successor.

Teams and Slack have all but killed the giant, webex. There must be something to it.

Teams for the complaints some people have about it is leaps and bounds better than Skype ever was.

Alternatively, you could use Slack.

I would think that if you only or mainly talk to the client, then moving on to what they are using now is the better choice ?

But if they have moved on to Teams or Google Chat, then you literally have nothing to worry about as although you maybe on a different “system”, all you need is for them to send you chat invites via an email account using browser based calls ?

Teams, we migrated from Skype for Business to Teams recently, used to have various issues with S4B, Teams just works like a charm, If both parties on Teams happy days, if not it has telephony integrated. M365 offer various telephony pricing plans. Depends really if both companies use Microsoft software suites or Google software suites.

Your best choice is MS Teams because is in Microsoft Environment, also depends how is your tenant in 365 there’s licensing for phone meetings. Other options you can consider Zoom Workplace that also have licensing for calls. Compare both and make your best choice.

Cisco running WebEx into the ground really didn’t help, either…they had a chance at the start of CoVID to reclaim the crown but blew it early when Zoom did it better, faster, cheaper

Teams is fine for calls, but it’s virtually impossible to get it to stop nagging you about messages and things. When I decline a meeting, and remove it from my calendar, I still get to see all the messages and chat about it, even if it’s hidden and muted.

You can go with MS Team, Zoom, with easy migration process or you can even use google meet if calling is concern.
