Original thread ( How did a spammer get my Spiceworks email address? ) has been locked to ensure that users will report the incidents to community@spiceworks.com (SUPER Important! Please do this! It can only help!
)
That being said, I and other SpiceHeads are curious how the break down of users plays out. Please answer the poll below
Who else received the crazy spam?
- Yes, I got one and I’ve been to a SW Event, or signed up for a webinar or contest
- Yes, I got one and I never attended a SW Event, or signed up for a webinar or contest
- Nope I didn’t get one (check your spam folder to be sure)

Not here either. Maybe you have something public facing that is insecure to begin with. Or have posted your email address somewhere in a public forum.
This has been gone through at some length on the thread quoted in the OP. The email address in question is ONLY used for the SW community.

Nope. And i use my gmail account.
No, definitely not. Please read the original thread. K. Thanks.
Given that it’s been suggested that it came via a Spiceworks All Access London vendor, let me state that I went to AA and have not received such a message (checked message trace logs), and several people on the original thread who said that they had also received the spam message are listed as being in the US.

I’ve had one of those spam emails to - and I only received it to my Spiceworks email account.
So if this was just some generic spam that was sent out to a huge list, then I would expect to have seen it also on one of my other email accounts (Hotmail, Gmail, etc.) but nothing.
So the spam email looks like it’s targeted at Spiceworks email addresses, as far as I can tell, which seems highly unusual.

I’ll be happy to investigate anyone who votes “Yes, I got one and I never attended a SW Event, or signed up for a webinar or contest”. But again, please email us.
That said, to start off, @technerdmike I think you voted incorrectly. I see tons of Contests here:

Your right. I am logged into my personal account currently. Probably should have used my work community account to vote.
Tagging @mikedecamp @rhummel @dbeato @shonolson @fgorovodsky2 @ohtallone @pbrain since you all said you got it to make sure you get a chance to vote

Sooo, does this mean I’m still in the running for millions of dollars to be transferred into my account to help this poor girl(?) out?
Or maybe it’s my soul mate that will give me all of her love…
Sorry, I can only put humor to this; being Friday and all…

Are you talking about a different account? Your profile has a link to your website with your very public email address on it. Email us please!

Her name was Mona, she was a spammer
She said she got my email here, which sounded sorta weird
She made a promise, to share a secret
And while she tried to sound sincere,
Spiceworks mods were filled with fear
Throughout the angry thread, they calmed the Spicers’ dread
Mona was tempting and she was alluring
Who could ask for more?

Typical spam in my spam folder - lost inheritances, viagara offers, sex offers, hot stock tips, etc. But not this one.
Linked to a long standing gmail account that is on several lists now. But I rarely sign up for events or contests as I don’t like adding to the incoming marketing volume and hate having to unsubscribe.

Hello @david-bass . I emailed you guys as well.
So are you saying that the spammer basically trawled through the profiles of all Spiceworks users, found people’s websites and then found those people’s email address? And then used that information to send out the spam? I suppose that’s a possibility, even though it sounds unusual to me.
Spammers tend to just trawl websites generally. I’ve not heard of spammers trawling a community forum to find website links, then trawl those websites to find email addresses.
