Hi to All,

Good day.

I have an issue regarding my laptop and some PC about windows 10. Everytime we boot it it will eat up at least 100% of the hard disk. I tried to remove unnecessary apps at boot time but still I cannot isolate the issue. I also tried to check the HDD health but it is good.

I would like to ask if anybody encountered this issue and what did they do to fix it.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Can you see the process using the HDD ?

Just open the resource monitor and you can see…

That’s a 5400 RPM drive not gonna take much to max it out. Best fix would be an SSD.

Hi adrian_ych,

Yes I check but there is no service eating too much disk resource. Mostly running are windows services such as one drive. This always happens during bootup. Sometimes it freezes the computer or laptop.

Thanks.

Rodney

Does the high Disk usage runs for like a few minutes every boot the goes down or does it lasts like 20 mins or longer ?

Coz if you are certain that it is services causing the load and not processes, then you can go to services to stop these services if not required.

If it is processes like one drive…you can either disable one drive from starting with windows or maybe it was sync-ing some previously stopped uploads etc.

Then do check your program list and un-install any software that you do not need or any unknown software.

i see that you are a programmer and this often happens to programmers as you tend to use different software and may have installed some “un-clean” software that might have adware or other malware running (like search toolbars or “speedup” tools).

One way is to un-install unwanted software, run disk cleanup and then run wise registry cleaner (portable copy, no need install).

Hi adrian_ych,

Next time this happens I’ll try to check and give you an update.

Thanks for the info. Greatly appreciate it.

Hi Justin1250,

Thanks for the info. But as of the moment I’;; try to find a solution without buying additional hardware.

Greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks.

  • Check startup tab of task manager. Disable unneeded programs.

  • Perform virus scan in safe mode. Maybe there is a bitcoin miner or malware installed on your computer?

The most common cause of this that I see is WUDO. Disable it and see if there’s improvement. OneDrive has also been an issue for some in the past.

But the long-term fix is going to be to get faster storage.

Disable Windows search service, Disable Superfetch service.

Hi to All,

Thanks for all the info you’ve given me. I’ll try to do all of this one by one and give you a feedback within the week.

I appreciate all the help.

Thanks.
