Hi guys,
I’m going to be in Austin for a social event Oct 10th and I was actively looking for IT events in the area while I was here. I’m coming from the UK on the weekend so I wanted to really make it worth it!
I’ve been a contractor for 7 years now, specializing in developing and integrating Microsoft .NET applications, though I’m looking at moving into Dynamics from an ERP angle in a year or two so meeting and talking to folks in this space would be “awesome”.
From what I can tell, this looks like it might be more targeted at your network admins, IT managers etc - think someone from my area could get much out of this? Don’t believe the sessions have been announced yet so I’m guessing a little at the minute!
Managed to find one video from last year on YouTube on Wireless Security which looked pretty good so general IT will always gets me interested too
Thanks in advance and have a great day,
Andrew

It targeted at the everyday IT Pro. I don’t think there will be any session for developers, but it’s a great time with a bunch of great people

There is an active coding community. It’s alwayd worth at least looking into.

Since you’re going to be in Austin (HQ of Spiceworks), you might reach out to communitymanagers@spiceworks.com to see if there is anything cool you can check out with Spiceworks in the area.

If you are interested in Security, then there are two keynote speakers this year you might be interested in:
Frank Abagnale / Introducing Frank Abagnale - Notorious con man and SpiceWorld featured speaker!
Bruce Schneier / Bruce Schneier: SpiceWorld's second featured speaker
Last year we had Kevin Mitnick and Stu Sjouwerman of KnowBe4. Great talk by Kevin, although I did have my smart phone turned off.
Hard to find a better IT conference at the price. Most others that are any good cost about 10x as much. And, aside from the content, always a good time. A good collection of vendors are always on hand (at least 60, some years as many as 120 or so), and many of them have hardware/software engineers on hand.
The social function wouldn’t be RSI related would it?

I find the best feature of SpiceWorld, is the networking with other Spiceheads. This is why I’ve paid my own way to Austin (from the UK too in previous years).
I have a good circle of friends throughout the world, thanks to Spiceworks, and get to meet some of them at SpiceWorld.

MarkT94 Haha, yes it is RSI related, over at the Long Center. Best damn space sim ever
You going?
Aye, heard Bruce Schneier was going - read some of his articles in the past, love to see that talk. Did not know Frank Abagnale was going though. I think those speakers alone have probably convinced me to pick up a ticket!
Price is decent to be honest, I’ve been to a few before and this is definitely good value.

Unfortunately no. The 10th is Wednesday, which is the BIG day for Spiceworld. Can’t be in two places… Since the company is paying, guess I need to keep it business. Perfect location, bad timing. Had it been on Monday or Thursday I would have definitely picked up a ticket.
Likely I will run in to a great many of the attendees in the evenings. Already spoken with a few who are attending and will likely meet up with them at some point Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
