Hello,

We are having some issues with the network scan updating the inventory correctly.

For instance, Spiceworks still thinks that we have PC’s on our network that we haven’t had for months.

It says that three separate devices are at the same IP address.

Also, sometimes when we change the IP address of a device and run a network scan, spiceworks still thinks it’s at the old address.

Is there a way to sunset old devices off of the inventory?

Any clues on why it’s not resolving the new IP addresses?

Any comments are greatly appreciated

Hello,

So first things first: even if a machine is no longer on your network, Spiceworks will keep it in inventory just in case it might be “offline.” If Spiceworks killed off inventory items if they didn’t check in every once in a while, how would you know a machine is just offline? The way to get rid of those devices is to manually go in and remove them.

Secondly, the reason it’s not resolving the new IP addresses is because it tries DNS name first. If it can find the name via DNS, it doesn’t try to go any further. I believe if you set your scan speed to slow, then turn off incremental scanning this should help resolve some of those issues (and IPs).

Did I miss anything? Please let me know if I can be of any more assistance. Thanks!

@ Cole1436: Yes, you miss something:

"Enable Scanner sends all data instead of deltas, rescan

(Settings → Network Scan → Show Additional Settings → Scanner sends all data instead of deltas → true), click Start button to being a manual scan.

This setting forces Spiceworks to pull only changes (or “deltas) to the device’s inventory information when set to false. When set to true Spiceworks will pull down all information during a scan.”

@ IS3038: Follow this howto: Troubleshooting Spiceworks Inventory Inconsistencies - Spiceworks

and set scan speed to slow, as Cole1436 suggested.

bytesnake, thank you for catching that!

Awesome, thanks for the replies!

You`re welcome.

Glad we (bytesnake) could help!
