I have a windows 7 machine that I am working on that when I open the device manager, it is blank. The side that is supposed to show all of your devices is just, blank, nothing there.

Any suggestions besides reloading would be appreciated.

3 Spice ups

Hi,

The below was pulled from the MS support site:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
  2. Double-click Plug and Play.
  3. If you receive a Configuration Manager message, click OK.
  4. In the Startup Type list, click Automatic, and then click OK.
  5. Close Services.Restart the computer.

If this doesn’t resolve the issue try installing the system readiness tool:

32 Bit: Before You Download or Visit External Websites

64 Bit: Before You Download or Visit External Websites

Let me know how you get on

You could also take the easy route and run Tweaking’s all-in-one windows repair. It will go through and reset permissions on all essential keys as well as reset all windows services to default values.

This software has bailed me out of many a frustrating situation.

it is not the plug and play or the ENUM in the registry.

Hi KT, did you end up wiping or find another solution? I’m troubleshooting a PC with the same issue, and the issue came in shortly after wiping it, while I was still setting it up, so I’m sure it’s not Malware. The PC was needed too urgently for me to start over, so I’m looking for a solution, otherwise I’ll just have to get a new PC to replace it with.
