An Illinois attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for three weeks. You could repost and add Social Security as a category. There's no guarantee that all questions are ultimately picked up, but you would have better chances of a disability attorney seeing your post under... Read more »

Q: Is it legal for a residential mailroom to charge $5 per package delivered?

I live in an RV Resort and have for 5 years. This new charge is rumored to begin November 1st. Just wondering if it's legal to charge up for UPS or Amazon packages delivered?

Terrence H Thorgaard
Terrence H Thorgaard answered on Oct 7, 2021

Yes, it's probably legal. If you stay at the RV resort on a month-to-month basis, and if you don't like the planned changes, you can move some place else.

Q: My son got covid from a prison guard. He's not doing so good. They forced him to get shots. Prison not caring.

Prison doesn't seem to be taking covid serious. Son was just sent to prison within a week a prison guard gives my son covid. He's had a high fever and hasn't called anyone in 3 days. Can I do something about the negligence of this prison?

Brent T. Geers
Brent T. Geers answered on Oct 6, 2021

Hard to say based just on what is stated here. How would your son prove he got COVID from this guard? And even if he could show that, unless he can also show that the prison knew but did nothing about the guard's condition - perhaps by them violating their own COVID mitigation policies, I am... What your ex's attorney said to him is none of your business; it's between the attorney and your ex. That it makes you feel uncomfortable is tough; get over it.

Q: Can undefined weapons become weapons if used in self defence?

Any object may fit the definition of a weapon if carried or used with intent to injure. But what if one carries an object such as an axe, intending to harm others if necessary in self defence? Will he be allowed to continue carrying it, or be prosecuted for malicious intent?

Mark Oakley
Mark Oakley answered on Oct 5, 2021

Nobody is a mind reader. Intent to use an object as a weapon is something that is determined based on the facts. Of course, openly declaring or admitting your intentions can and will be used as evidence against you. A person carrying an ax is not committing a crime if that is all they are doing.... Read more »

You should contact a personal injury / medical malpractice attorney immediately. The statute of limitations is quite short so it is important to get in to see a lawyer right away.

You should file a police report. If there is a criminal case filed against them or a juvenile case, it will likely come along with an order prohibiting contact. Otherwise, you'd need to go to the courthouse and request a restraining order.

Q: can driver stop on the cross walk in spite, when the pedestrian is half way across the crosswalk

i was half way past the cross walk and a white van (about 15 meters away) started to speed up so i backed up to let it drive by, but it stopped on the crosswalk and wait for me to go around it

Crosswalk laws can differ from one jurisdiction to another, one of the factors being whether there are traffic control devices. However, you describe obstruction of a crosswalk in what appears to be a deliberate act, and that is improper anywhere. Good luck

Fraud and perjury connote intention, which is hard to place on an otherwise neutral witness. If it were any...
