Spiceworks reports that 75% of my desktops have no anti virus software. Upon checking, all have AVG 9.0 installed and running and up to date. If I check the software list it shows AVG installed even though the configuration page shows “none detected”.

Any idea why SW can’t detect the AV?

Doesn’t look like it’s on the supported list: http://community.spiceworks.com/help/Anti-Virus_Support_In_Spiceworks%3F

Make sure to mention that here: http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/106269 I use AVG on my servers and have the same result, SW doesn’t see it.

Your AV solution doesn’t have to be supported by Spiceworks directly for Spiceworks to report on it.

Is Windows Security Center enabled on your computers? If Windows Security Center can detect the AV software, that information will get passed on to Spiceworks.

Ah, we routinely disable Windows Security setting and the way it reports problems. Our management of security issues like firewall and AV are all controlled by IT using third part management consoles (like AVG corporate edition) and Spiceworks.

I guess I could enable checking for AV in SC so that SW would advise me of any out of date versions.

Very helpful, thanks gents.

I asked this question in the beginning, I see it get asked by tons of people. Can this be pointed out elsewhere like on the dashboard? It appears new users do not use the search option often or cannot find what they need.
