One of my customers who needed to change their remote management tool has been evaluating this based on my recommendation; they were less than pleased with me this morning when the buy now or quit notice landed in their mailbox.

This was the email I got. There are reports of others getting a differently worded email.

Yep, that’s what my client forwarded to me; he was looking for a low cost / no cost 1 man shop management solution that he could use to replace his antiquated product.

TeamViewer is a 1 time cost, there’s also another Spiceworks partner you should look at too along with many others, and that’s Remote Utilities.

That’s not actually true; I bought TeamViewer and they pulled a version upgrade on me and then my version wouldn’t work, well, it would connect for a few minutes and then disconnect with a message I need to buy the upgrade and then, after ten minutes it would let me connect for another five.

I’ll never recommend TeamViewer again.

Well there’s another one you could take a look at too:

Remote Utilities, they are about to release a 10 PC free for business use version.

Suggested my client look at VNC since all he really needs is a LAN solutions; he uses GoToMyPC to get in remotely.

I just use the VPN so, I don’t care what he has.

So I went back and looked at our account. I have two licenses for Ignition for Windows, 1 for my Android Laptop and 1 for Central. I just looked at my renewal and it expires in June 2014. I checked to see if I could renew now and it said that I could for $300 for Central and $35.95 each of the ignition for Windows.

Is anyone else with LMIC seeing this? I have yet to receive an email from LMI about the changes to any of my accounts (Free of the one running Central).

Check the thread link earlier in my post, there are several better threads.

I have done some further reading through many threads now and now understand the “issue”. I must say that now knowing that at this point I am not going to see an increase of the cost. I may stay where I am at. I do agree that the notification process was sub par However, we have been damn lucky in getting a product for free for so long.

Yeah but you are going to need to watch out now, as those “free” clients that are now in LMI Central will result in a charge sooner or later.

They technically aren’t free anymore - as I pay $300/year to have them in Central. So for the 65 units I have I end up paying $4.60/year.

We had 28 threads on this one yesterday. Over 30 now as of this morning.

They aren’t even remotely free. It’s not Central gives you free ones, there are tiers. As you add more, the price continues to go up!

I actually wasn’t at all surprised; that they waited so long did catch my eye though.

Once they had a huge, entrenched freeloading customer base; like a smart drug dealer, they upped the price. A lot of the more entrenched will stick with them. Even if they lose 40 to 60% of their free customer base, they still gain a huge revenue stream with the added bonus of increased capacity by reduced demand without having to outlay more funds for hardware.

Not saying I agree with the tactic but, somebody is probably going to get a promotion and bonus out of this.

And then they will leave and leave the suckers holding the bag containing pissed off clients.
