We have an extra Windows type account under Manage Network Accounts.

The type is Windows and it says “cannot be altered”.

We already have an account that we set up for Windows type and also says cannot be altered. How do we go about removing the redundant account listing?

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

I would start by restarting Spiceworks, then going back to this page to see if anything changes for you. If that fails, I would stop Spiceworks and manually edit the users.yaml file in the data directory of your Spiceworks installation.

Alternatively, you can logout of your Windows account and login as a different user, then start Spiceworks as that user and you should be able to delete any straggling accounts.

It’s not a matter of that user being associated with a scan range, it is the user Spiceworks itself is running as.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

That usually means that account is set to be used in a scan.

Remove all network scans that use that user name, or change the user name that the network scan uses. Look in the Managed Network Accounts section. The ‘cannot be altered’ note should be removed now and you can select the drop down arrow and select delete.

Becareful when you are doing this so you don’t delete the wrong account.

{"@type":"Person
craigm
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/craigm"}},{"@type":"Answer

That account is the one Spiceworks is running as. This will either be the currently logged in user (on the Windows machine, not Spiceworks) or if you’re running Spiceworks as a service, then it’s the name of the account that Spiceworks is running as.

There is no way to alter that account from within Spiceworks.

{"@type":"Person
justin5198-spiceworks
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/justin5198-spiceworks"}},{"@type":"Answer

Make sure that the user WinTest isn’t the username that the Spiceworks service is running under, and make sure that it isn’t set to be used in on of your network scans in Spiceworks.

{"@type":"Person
craigm
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/craigm"}},{"@type":"Answer

That’s weird, I would never expect to see more than one entry that said “cannot alter account” since it should only ever display for the currently logged in user account.

Are you running Spiceworks as a service? Which of those accounts did you add yourself, if any?

{"@type":"Person
justin5198-spiceworks
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/justin5198-spiceworks"}},{"@type":"Answer

WinTest was created by accident. I was trying to add an SSH type and was distracted and ended up creating another Windows type (hence WinTest). I ended up using the same domain account as i had used for the other Windows network account and scan account. I realize that you shouldn’t be able to remove the only account for scan or network, but i thought i should be able to remove one of the extra ones even if they are the same.

{"@type":"Person
alan32885294
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/alan32885294"}},{"@type":"Answer

You advise deleting from:

WinTest:

:type: wmi

:p: |-

incHQ0qB…

etM2

:login: DOMAIN\\username

:device:

in the users.yaml file in the data directory?

I’ll go ahead if this is the solution.

{"@type":"Person
alan32885294
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/alan32885294"}},{"@type":"Answer
