Hey all,

We have a central Spiceworks installation at our office and a remote site which sends its info back to our central install. It was working for a bit, then we changed the PC name of our central Spiceworks install. Now when I look in the inventory for the remote devices, many of them say that they can’t be scanned! If I disable the remote site mode at the remote install, I can scan all of the devices without any issues. This issue is not affecting all of the computers at the remote site, but a good amount of them. Devices like printers and such are not experiencing these issues. Any ideas?

Hi Justin,

If you perform an nslookup on the central server’s IP, is the correct hostname returned or do you see the old hostname?

It may be a good idea for me to grab a copy of your logs to see what’s going on, but let’s make sure there isn’t something unusual going on in DNS first.

The correct hostname is returned when I run nslookup.

Hi Justin,

It sounds like it would be a good idea for me to grab a copy of your logs. Let me get a support ticket set up for you and I’ll send over some instructions on getting those to us!

I found out that it is not a Spiceworks issue. The issue lies within the network of the remote site. I’m still working on it but there seems to be a firewall issue.
