Switch 2 availability confirmed for launch day

Best Buy has now confirmed a Switch 2 re-stock. Pre-orders came and went quite quickly on the eve of April 24 last month with a quick, and particularly short-lived re-stock at Walmart the following weekend, but stock has been essentially gone since then. As we reported previously, it appear as though some major retailers are now readying more units for launch day, and Best Buy has now confirmed it will have more units.

After Walmart’s pre-order listings were removed from its official site, they were eventually brought back online with a new “Coming Soon!” tag and a date reading “06/05/2025,” suggesting Walmart will likely have more stock online come launch day on June 5. This also now appears to be the case at Best Buy.

While Best Buy’s Switch 2 listings online are completely out stock and read “Coming Soon,” it was unclear whether or not the major retailer would indeed re-stock for launch day or not.

We know Best Buy is offering in-store Midnight pickup for folks lucky enough to have landed a pre-order last month – reports suggest some local Best Buy stores have warned customers to get their early to beat the lines, by the way.

But all of this we, for the most part, already knew and have reported on – here’s a quick reminder on the details for Best Buy Midnight pickup:

On June 5 most stores in the U.S. will open at 12 a.m. ET, 11 p.m. CT, 10 p.m. MT and 9 p.m. PT for pre-order pickup. Take advantage of our store locator tool to find the closest location to you.

Best Buy confirms more Switch 2 stock for launch day

Update: According to the listing page mentioned below, Best Buy appears to have backtracked its initial message detailing additional stock landing on launch day. It is unclear whether or not it just released the message prematurely and will indeed have stock on June 5, or if it has changed its mind entirely. The original post awaits below.

However, Best Buy has now updated its special Nintendo Switch 2 landing page to quietly inform customers of when it will have more Switch 2 consoles available for purchase:

Late-night store opening:
Thursday, 6/5/25 at 12:01 a.m. ET

In addition to fulfilling pre-orders, most stores will have limited inventory of systems, games and accessories for purchase. Customers will also have the chance for a free Nintendo collectible. Check out our full assortment below.

It appears it’s going to be another first-come, first-served mad dash at Midnight but “most stores will have limited inventory of systems,” as well as games and accessories.

As for what that “free Nintendo collectible” will be, we still aren’t sure. Some early rumors suggested some sort of collectible coin, but there are no details outside of there being just a “chance” at getting one and a limit of “one collectible per party.”

There are also no details on who has a chance at the FREE collectible – Is this just for folks picking up pre-orders? Just for folks buying a console that night? Or just for the first in line? Sounds like it might be the latter though.
