While we know Best Buy, GameStop, and (likely) Walmart will all be participating in the Nintendo Switch 2 launch next week, Target is perhaps going to be your best bet for scoring one online. We know the national retailer will be hosting a launch day celebration at its brick and mortar locations with a chance to actually buy a Switch 2 console, followed by availability online the next day, but it has now issued an official press release with additional details and what time you’ll need to be ready to land a Switch 2.

Again, we have official confirmation for most of the major U.S. retailers that they will indeed have limited Switch 2 consoles up for sale on launch day. Details for online availability is far more vague, but it appears as though all of the major players will be getting in on the action in some way shape or form – let’s just hope Walmart doesn’t start cancelling some of the launch day orders like it has on pre-orders over the last week or so.

Target has, however, now issued an official press release detailing its Switch 2 launch plans alongside a companion sale event with merch, accessories and more starting from $20.
The first two things you need to know are the details we delivered to you yesterday:
- Target’s in-store event starts on June 5
- Target’s online Switch 2 availability starts on June 6
With that out of the way let’s dive into some of the details, first with the June 5 in-store action:
- You can begin lining up in the designated queuing location at the entrance of each Target store before stores open on Thursday, June 5. Target team members will distribute physical or digital tickets, which will reserve your product for purchase. Limited stock is available. Ticketing will take place until all tickets have been claimed or 10 minutes prior to store opening.
- Ticketed guests will be directed to the electronics area of the store to purchase and pick up their product.
- Due to high demand, there will be a purchase limit of one product, per item, per guest, for the Nintendo Switch 2 items:
- Nintendo Switch 2
- Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle
As for what time Switch 2 will go live on launch day at Target it is unfortunately being a little bit more vague.
Target has officially stated that starting on June 6, Nintendo Switch 2 and the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle “will be available for purchase beginning “early morning” on its official site.
At this point, and considering how pre-orders went back in April, “early morning” is about as helpful as it isn’t – just give us a time Target.
That said, pre-orders at Target went live right at midnight ET on April 24, and we are both expecting and recommending folks looking to land a console that day are ready to go when the clock strikes midnight on the east coast.
Clearly the in-store event isn’t a midnight bonanza like it will be at Best Buy – this might be an indication that online orders won’t go live until later in the morning on the following day, but I would not bet on it. Chances are, if it’s anything like the pre-orders, every single Switch 2 unit available online at Target will be gone by 1 a.m. ET at the latest. It’s, of course, impossible to say for sure, but you better be ready.
And here’s some of the details on the wider Target sale that will kick off as part of the celebration (live from June 5 through 7):

- 20% off select character and graphic tees
- 20% off select Nintendo and Pokémon toys
