We’ve had a handful of tough issues with Network Monitor v1.5 (which some of you have reported - including memory leaks and installer issues, among others). We have so far been unable to resolve one of the core issues with the app’s backend, and as a result we are re-releasing the last stable version prior to 1.5 (which is 1.4.00268) until we’re able to devote time to resolving the issues with 1.5.

What do I need to do?

I’m already using 1.5, and its working great for me. Existing 1.5 users without issues can continue to use that version. In fact, even if you need to move your Network Monitor to a different server you will continue to have access to the latest installer for v1.5 .

I’m using 1.5 but I’ve had some problems and have been waiting on bug fixes. If you are running 1.5 and encountering issues we encourage you to reinstall in order to downgrade to 1.4. Here’s how . Note that a couple of features present in 1.5 are not available in 1.4 (specifically history and maintenance windows.)

I’m currently on version 1.4. You don’t need to do anything - you can continue to use the existing version of 1.4 you already have installed. If you are not already on the latest version of 1.4 you can download it here and upgrade, if you’d like to. The latest version is 1.4.00268 (you can check your build version in the bottom right corner of any page).

What about brand new users? New users who download the Network Monitor will (starting today) receive the 1.4 installer instead of the 1.5 installer. We want folks to get up and running on 1.4 so they don’t have the issues we’ve seen with 1.5 over the past few months.

Does this impact other apps? This version rollback is specific to Network Monitor app and does not impact other apps.

Thank you for keeping us posted! We have noticed issues with it as well, always take a back burner as “tinker time” is limited, but love the Network Monitor when it’s working - a fantastic addition to our proactivity…

Is there an ETA on when 1.5.X will be safe for install/upgrade?

New install so new to the App, but 1.4.00268 doesn’t work for me, the monitoring service stops every few seconds.

Windows server 2012 R2 VM on HyperV cluster 2CPU’s and 4GB Ram standard and none standard ports with self signed (placeholder) certificate.

As per this post .

I can’t provide an ETA, unfortunately. I wish I could!

Sorry for the trouble! You can open a support request for help with that - shoot us a note at support@spiceworks.com.

I would like to add that my experience with uninstalling went like this.

I attempted to uninstall 1.5.00116 from add and remove programs. It appeared to be working at first but then failed around the point that it prompted for the survey. After closing out the installation after failure, I rebooted the server. Next, after booting back up, I attempted to uninstall again and it succeeded fully.

In that same session, I attempted to install 1.4 again and it failed. I then restarted again and it failed again. I learned that the installation was still seeing files in the program files folder from the old 1.5 install. I deleted all of those files (the whole spiceworks folder) and re ran the installation. This time the installation was successful and I was able to setup 1.4 again. Hope this helps!!!

Any updates on how 1.5 is progressing? We are currently on 1.5, but had similar issues with connections timing out / not displaying information on 1.4 (had to reboot the server daily.)

Many thanks!

Any news?

We’ve had issues with 1.4 and 1.5, however 1.5 seems to be less disruptive for us currently. Would love any updates as well.

The post linked to above still applies:

I wish I had other news, but that’s where we’re at for now!

Hi Brendan

Do you have any updates on the v1.5 fixes please? We’re keen to use the historic data and maintenance modes.

Thanks!

Matt

We as a small operations team are dependent on Network Monitor. We have seen some of the instability in 1.5.00116.

To solve our problem, we “network monitor” restart the services every night. knowing this is just a fase, and waiting for a stable release.
On the otherhand, everything looks great in this version and we have become accustomed to it’s little nacks.
Let me know if I can be of any assistance in testing!

With kind regards,
Paul

Same issue exists in 1.4.268. The Network monitor application doesn’t reliably monitor anything

Do you restart all services? When my monitor hangs and no data is being shown I usually only need to restart Spiceworks Monitor Service to get it back.

Is this product being discontinued or replaced? We haven’t seen an update (news or product release) in six months.

They have stopped development of Network Monitor and have started to work on a cloud based version. Please see the following post for more information.
