7.4 dashboard link

Just upgraded to 7.4 and I find the ticket dashboard useless. I also find annoying the fact that the dash board link in the help takes you to the ticket dash board and the only way to get back to the main spiceworks dashboard is to type in my site’s url or click on my bookmark. Is there a way to turn off the ticket dashboard and change that dashboard link back to the main dashboard.

7.4 speed seems to be great but the navigation in 7.3 and 7.4 has become more and more cumbersome IMHO.

The Apps button has nothing that references the main Spiceworks dashboard. and the other app or widget listed in that post doesn’t change the helpdesk nav bar.

Description

Spiceworks 7.3 uses a “domestic” navbar, which contains links based on which section of the app you’re using (Inventory or Helpdesk). This plugin changes the “domestic” navbar to a global navbar for easy navigation. Features: > Adds persistent links to the Inventory, Helpdesk, Knowledge Base, Reports, and Purchase List regardless of which section of the app you’re using. > Adds a purchases dropdown menu containing links to the Purchase List, Vendors page, and Request Quote page > Changes the Tickets link into a dropdown menu that lists/links your ticket views > Changes the Settings link into a dropdown menu that lists/links all settings pages NOTE: Does not currently work on the new ‘Helpdesk’ dashboard - the new dashboard doesn’t currently load plugins, but will be updated to soon.

Okay, sorry about that then. You can try bookmarking the page. I’m sorry you find the navigation bar cumbersome. It should continue to evolve.

It was bad enough when someone decided to remove the Helpdesk link from the top of the main Dashboard a few updates ago. Now the Dashboard link, instead of going back to the main Dashboard, goes to a Helpdesk Dashboard? I actually like the info on the Helpdesk Dashboard, but why didn’t it get a new link instead of changing the current one? Since the “fix” for both these link changes is “bookmarking the page” (which I’ve done), should I just go ahead and start making bookmarks to every section of Spiceworks? The links at the top will be next to useless for navigating the system within the next 3 or 4 updates at this rate.

Hi,

When you are on the Help Desk side (viewing tickets), the Dashboard link will take you to the Help Desk Dashboard. When you are on the Inventory part of the app, the Dashboard link will take you to the Inventory Dashboard (the old dashboard). Is that not happening for you?

Yes it is. I wanted to avoid the whole Help Desk dashboard as I have no use for it. In 7.3 and prior the Dashboard link would take you to the old dashboard where at least for all useful info is. Right now every time I’m in the Help Desk I need to click my bookmark to get to http://spiceworks_install/dashboard?tab=home

If I could suggest a change, make a drop down called Dashboards and have the different dashboards listed there or something like that. I would think more people find the inventory dashboard more useful than this new Help Desk dashboard. Maybe a manager or Help Desk supervisor would be in the Help Desk Dashboard a lot but small IT departments may not find it at all useful and an inconvenience now to navigate back to the main ( Inventory) dashboard that you customize with all the widgets you use.

Maybe I’m using Spiceworks differently than most. Again just my opinion.

Also why do I have to log in every time I change pages in the community now. Just hit reply to post this message and it made me sign back in. It seems to be doing this every time I goto a page not on my local Spiceworks server.

Also, if you click the Spiceworks link from inside the app, it takes you to the dashboard (the old one). You can also make it your home page by changing that within people if you so desire.

Please send a screen shot of the Spiceworks link to which you are referring. If I click on the Spiceworks logo at the top of the page, it just takes me back to the main page for whichever side I am already in (Help Desk or Inventory). It does not bring up the Inventory Dashboard like the Dashboard link used to do.

Again, I actually do find the info on the Help Desk Dashboard interesting (I’m usually pretty happy with Spiceworks as a whole). I just wish the links that made it easy to navigate to where I need to be would quit disappearing or being changed to less useful links. To David’s point, the Help Desk Dashboard is not nearly as useful as the Inventory Dashboard where all the widgets I use are displayed. Also, as I mentioned before, the Help Desk link that used to be up beside the Dashboard link disappeared entirely a while back. Made it a lot easier to switch back and forth between the 2 sides instead of having to add bookmarks to my already overcrowded bookmarks list.

If I click on that while in Inventory, help desk, purchasing it takes me to what I have set as my home page. If I’m in the community part it takes me to somewhere in the community section. To set your home page you need to go to Invenotry section, My Network, People, find your account and click edit and adjust the home page box. Default is the main or inventory dash board at least on my install.

I take that back…it takes me to the ticket page. Not sure why the Inventory Dashboard refreshed the first time I clicked it while already on the Inventory side of things. Tinkering with the Starting page settings now to see if I can get the link to bring up the Inventory Dashboard…

Yeah. Was set to Help Desk (that’s the default our IT team chose forever ago when we installed it, I think). Still would be nice to see separate Dashboard links, or a drop down.

Thanks for this info. I was a bit down when I noticed the dashboard change. Now I have both dashboards on two separate tabs which accumulates a lot more useful information

I would like to know how I can possibly add more graphs to the Help Desk dashboard it’s an awesome dashboard but needs more “beef” like average time spent on tickets, allowing you to drill down to actual tickets maybe?

I don’t hate the Help Desk dashboard, I just wish if it’s going to be the one we use all the time (we don’t need Inventory at all in this case), that I could add widgets to it and bring some of our custom elements over from the Inventory one that we created when it was the only dashboard.
