I just read an article that actually made sense. I have relatives who think the internet is like a magical hole in the universe like mid-evil black magic. Some relatives use the internet for daily processes (email, ebay, espn) the basic e’s. After reading the article I realized that I would probably spend more time outside if I wasn’t in the IT field.

I often go a day or two without the Internet.
Weekends, mostly.
It’s just fine.

I would go days without the internet, but unfortunately I have to collaborate with people around the country as well as take distance learning courses at the local university. If I didn’t have the net for communication I would probably be on the phone alot.

There is nothing better than taking a camping trip with no technology every once in a while.

So he couldn’t take his box to say a best buy and swap it out for another one? Which they do at Best Buy, assuming they endorse Comcast… or he couldn’t take it to the Comcast center and replace it… which they do?
I’m confused as to why the obvious didn’t become an option for him.

Always nice to disconnect. My favorite way to get away is on the futbol pitch

My life would be a whole lot better without the internet!
I honestly was thinking the same thing. IF I knew it was the modem the provider had given me was the issue, I would have made a trip right to the company for a replacement. I guess I’m different because I couldn’t…let me re-phrase that will not wait for a repair person to come and deliver a new modem.

Actually outside work, I don’t really use my Internet that much. I use it to go on fun stuff like Youtube and check my webmail, but other than that, I spend most of my time on doing outdoor activities.
If I am spending eight hours a day at work staring at my monitor, why would I go home and do the same by turning on my laptop?
I’d much rather spend time jogging, swimming, or going for a walk.

Notice “Internet” is listed in the rule of threes for survival:
3 minutes without air
3 days without water
3 weeks without food
3 months without sex

Meh. I am planning to head up into the mountains next week for a day of camping and then a relaxing day in the Jacuzzi, spa, golf, tennis, etc. So two days of no internet and I am absolutely looking forward to being unplugged.
i just xld my isp…and there is only one in my area…so i have decided to tether my phone to my laptop…so i am really watching my usage (limited to 2GB) and the last week, have had to really cut down. i must say, the internet was really stealing a lot of hours of my life. thank goodness its gardening season and i vow to spend more time outdoors with the poodle.

Yeah, this story is pretty lame to. It’s just some guy whose internet went out… Big deal. Go work for AT&T or Verizon for a day, you’ll hear some horror stories. It took this guy a day to get his internet. I know customers who got screwed around with for months before they got to me.
My wife and I were just talking about this. Talking about how nice it would be to completely shut ourselves off from all things internet. We have become way too dependent on the internet, whether it is our phones, tablets, or computers. I remember the day when you had to ask friends for directions to a location and hitting a pay phone when you got lost. Now I have my phone and just enter the location and before I know it I’m on the way. And if it gets me to the wrong location I still have an easy way back. Obviously it has made my life easier, but at the same time I’m missing the great outdoors. I have several side jobs that require me to maintain communication via the internet. It is sad that if I go outside with my kids when I return to my phone it takes me a few minutes just to catch up on emails and posts from clients. It is panic mode when you don’t have internet when you expect to have it, but at the same time we all dream about stepping away.
Hell my internet at my house goes down all the time. Anymore I just don’t care… besides it’s summer! Get outside!
Oh what in the world would most American’s if the whole infrastructure goes down? Most will not live past a year. Most would just kill themselves due to no internet.
Obviously, this guy wasn’t to bright. Most people would take the modem back and get a new one rather than waiting.

Yeah, you can probably include yourself in that group. Unless you store food and ammo. We are all dependent on the “whole infrastructure”. I could easily live without Youtube, but I sort of enjoy having electricity and running water.

I go days without the InterWebz myself. It’s usually spent using one of those analog e-reader things. Whatcha call it [snaps fingers]… Oh! That’s right, a book.
