Have some wiring issues at the house, so no internet and TV since Saturday. The TV I couldn’t care any less about, but having no internet is an issue. It’s amazing what will not run in your house without a connection. Even things I never thought would be an issue.

The electrician and the cable guy will be having a nice pow wow on the corner of my house this afternoon. If all goes well, we will be back on the information superhighway by the time I get home from work. Fingers crossed.

This leads to a Wednesday question: how long have you gone without internet (and don’t say years pre-Al Gore you 'ol timers!!! )

I don’t have internet at my apartment, not really. I have my phone though. :stuck_out_tongue:

No internet at all, huh? Interesting. Are you using your phone as a hotspot?

Since the 90s, probably a total of 2 days. I usually plan well for cutovers for moves and have never really had an issue unless the power has gone out.

It took time warner over a week to fix one of their problems with the signal to our house one time.

We moved to our house and provider was in the process of putting in fiber, so I was faced with a choice:

  1. Get setup on crap wireless right away and then wait a year for fiber.
  2. Wait a couple months and get put on fiber.

I picked #2. Our old house wasn’t sold yet and being a few blocks away I kept service active there. Some nights we’d sneak down there for interwebs and some Disney Channel for the kids. Otherwise we watched old DVDs and use our phones.

More than a week. Unless you count all those years growing up that we never had internet, then it would be like 15 years.

Last time I went to Greece I left all devices including my phone at home. Had a tech free week away, and do you know what? I think I appreciated the place all the more for it.

Technically, i never had internet when i lived with the parents. At their age, they had no reason for it at home.

When WiFi became a thing and the neighbors were not securing their AP’s, that was the start of something magical for me.

It was only until i got a smart phone that i had a reliable internet connection.

I may be an “IT Guy”, but i relish the simpler, more analog days…

I had AL Gore stop by and lay hands on my house and I have never had any problems with internet since. Even when a dump truck forgot to lower his bed and ripped the overhead lines in two… By Gosh! It was miracle! I could feel the blessings of the Goreman in full effect as the Matrix rerouted itself automatically allowing all our activities to still be monitored at will.

Last outage was for about 4 days because the crew doing road construction cut the wire. I actually got a lot of things done around my house though

About a 3 days, we had a power outage at home. We still had our phones. But after the 3rd day I rented a generator for the last two days with no power.

Funny you bring this up. Several months back we lost power and I got a text from the power company saying it would be like 6 or 7 hours before it was up. So I drug the generator out of the shed, uncoiled the cable, removed the cover from the circuit panel, plugged in the breaker, switched off the main, switched off all the individual breakers, started the generator and cut on the power.

Turned out the only breaker I wound up turning back on was the one for my den - where my computer and modem are.

Gotta have that technology boy.

This is why I always keep a few single player/offline games to enjoy on the console, board games, biking, volleyball, projects around the house. No Internet stinks however its like wanting a milkshake at mcdonalds when the icecream machine is “broken”. Those are awww man moments, but probably one of the best things for me…

The shortest amount of time I haven’t had internet is when I moved to a new place and it took a day.

Let’s just say that most mental institutions don’t allow any outside contact for the first little while you’re there and leave it at that.

Sometimes, yeah.

A solid week and a half, the last time I went camping on vacation about a year ago.

A couple of days when Virgin accidentally cut through one of their trunk cables.

2 days during an ice storm that knocked out power. I had my phone available though so I didn’t go totally without.

Because I used to have Frontier, I guess you could say I went many months as a Frontier customer without internet access because I generally had to tether to my phone’s hotspot to get a stable connection.
