Is it possible to add users as admins into SW from the AD? I noticed a setting for AD users with the helpdesk but at the moment I haven’t been able to sell that part of SW so it’s only for inventory and remote management for the moment but I was hoping that I can encourage more use especially by the rest of IT if they could use their AD logins instead of me having to create them.

Was thinking in that way if they change their password it would do so in SW also and maybe other AD info relating to the user account would come through as well…

The AD relationship in Spiceworks is for end users (helpdesk and portal users) not Admins, they must be added by hand through the Users page, Settings > User Accounts.

There have been a number of Feature Requests for additional security mechanisms (any/some) in Spiceworks helpdesk and portal for non-AD users, along with requests for a greater number of user roles.

Visit the Feature Requests and have a look through the requests and/or search for requests about AD Admins and authentication, then any you like the sound of Spice em up to enhance the likelihood of seeing them in a future version of Spiceworks.

If you don’t find one suitable make your own request and post a link back here to encourage others to Spice it up.
