Greetings my fellow unappreciated IT brethren.

As per the title our logmein account is coming to a close and we don’t want to fork out stupidly expensive amounts of money for a potential replacement… We have connectwise and labtech but we need the ability to connect to a machine like logmein does. Team viewer is off the table as you need software the other side. FixMe.IT seems to be the best alternative so far. Anyone able to recommend a good alternative?

Thanks

EDIT:

I made this in a bit of a rush yesterday so let me explain a bit more.

We use connect wise and Labtech for our clients that we have a “support contract” with so we have the agents deployed on their machines and we monitor them and can instantly access them using screen connect.

Our use of logmein is primarily for “byod” users or for one off support of some clients who either use mac or are on a “pay as you go” contract (no monitoring tools installed). logmein is useful as we can connect using the simple code and the applet download. I realise with Fixme.it the users give us a code and run the support applet. We are trialling it at the moment and have not used it in practice…

I hope this answers your questions.

ANOTHER EDIT

“Teamviewer is off the table as you need software the other side”

Don’t they all need some sort of software on the other side to launch? I use Teamviewer here and push out the .msi to remote systems. Works well for me

Splashtop Business. And kf you need it, Splashtop SOS.
Pricing is extremely reasonable.

Remote Utilities is free up to 10 computers and probably less expensive for more connections than LogMeIn.

How many remote devices are you supporting?

Please give Splashtop a free test drive. Over 60k MSPs have migrated to Splashtop for faster and cost effective solution.

If you are using LogMeIn Central Basic / Plus, Splashtop Remote Support offers the same equivalent feature packages (Basic / Plus) at less than 40% of LogMeIn pricing.
If you are using LogMeIn Pro, Splashtop Business Access would be the best replacement. If you need attended remote support like Rescue, Splashtop On-Demand Support is the best alternative. You’ll enjoy high performance remote access, at fraction of logmein cost. I’m here to answer any question.

What do you mean by, “TeamViewer is off the table as you need software the other side”?

I used LMI many years ago, before they decided to gouge their customers and also backed off on their promise of LMI Free always being free. I switched to TeamViewer, and I have used Splashtop. All of them required “software the other side”, which was either installed and always running, or a downloadable one-time usage program (LMI Rescue, TeamViewer Quick Support, etc.).

I can use TeamViewer through a browser rather than the local program, but I think the remote side always has a download for any remote control software (other than RDP, which is useless for one-off support).

What do you mean, connect like LMI does? I’m not sure what functions LMI has that SC doesn’t. Please clarify?

“We have connectwise and labtech but we need the ability to connect to a machine like logmein does.” It sounds like you only used LogMeIn Rescue, their one-off support tool.

What specific LMI product do you mean? Even the FixMe.IT product you referenced needs software on the remote side…it has a download that must be run, just like Splashtop, TeamViewer Quick Support, and others.

@bruceclark

I’ve updated the post.

CloudBerry has a free solution called CloudBerry Remote Assistance. You can download it here: https://www.cloudberrylab.com/remote-assistant.aspx

If you check it out an have any feedback we’d love to hear it. We’re continually adding features and plan to keep the product free.

Hey Count_Nibbles, are you currently using the access-only functionality of Control in Automate, and using LogMeIn for support sessions? If so, Control actually does it all and I don’t think you would need to use both anymore. This web page has a comparison chart you can look at to see our pricing and features side-by-side with LogMeIn.

I hope you find this helpful and if you have any questions about ConnectWise Control please don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

@bruceclark

I’ve used NoMachine in the past, free, but requires a client to be installed.

You mention that you use ConnectWise, and that you need something for BYOD. I just create a support session for one-off BYOD help using ConnectWise. Works just fine.

I just replaced GoToAssist with Remote Utilities . I’m not a fan of a 3rd party brokering my remote support sessions and purchasing and maintaining an on-prem appliance like Bomgar MB200 wasn’t an option due to cost (at a prior operation I had a Bomgar BM100). Remote Utilities gave me all the tools I needed and also gave me direct control over my support environment by providing a free on-prem server system.

I was able to roll the solution out using the cloud based ID system initially and then deploy the on-prem server and migrate all the end points over. The only reason I did it this way is because I had very little time to transition to the new system as my support contract was coming up for renewal in about a week.

With the prior solution I had 3 licenses, but one of those licenses needed access to only one machine, and the other 3 machines. I was able to deploy the free RM viewer for those locations and purchase the PRO for me for 25% of the cost of GoToAssist and this was a one time license purchase!

So far Remote Utilities has been working great and I’ve just been using the more basic functions of the system. Definitely worth checking out, the free license has all the functionality of the higher level licenses, only limits are how many machines you can manage.
