So yesterday we were all discussing some issues we have been having with our new AIX box. we think we might have figured out a solution but we will need to do a file split on this one big arse file and then do a resize. we discussed if we are going to have all our services down(home banking, automated teller ext…) we might as well do the whole file system to get it done. and the new guy (who is the assistant to the person who is out of town and takes care of this box) agrees and we discuss when we should do it. i suggest 2am sunday morning because this will have minimal impact on our members (ive had to do this before and we did it at this time) and the new guy is obviously a little distressed by this because he was thinking doing it like 8 or 9 pm Saturday. so i piped up and said i do it because 1 ive done it before 2 im a hell of a nice guy apparently and 3 its an easy few hour, ill be doing ti remotely and i can chill at home and watch a movie or play skyrim…

so… today the person who was out of town is back in, and apparently was planning on doing the resize after she did the purges she needs to do. so i said oh cool (yay dodged having to do the resize) and i informed my boss (head of IT) and he said oh ok well did you tell her what we all discussed and i said no, she was planning on doing it all anyways so nothing to really talk about. so he said he wanted to go over it with her and well he did… so i dont know what happened in this conversation but apparently since i volunteered to do the purge at 2am she jumped on this and threw in an extra few hours of purges… so i went from voluteering to help to taking on the entire operation of this departments… i think next time i will not volunteer to be so nice…

And they should give you Monday off for doing this. Tell all 3 of them I said you could have Monday off for working Sunday at ungodly early hours.

Doing a good job will make the head of IT like you, and be more willing to give you the 2am duties. Call in sick since she wanted to do it anyway.
