I have a system here that is running Windows Vista, it did (two years ago) have Norton on it, however it currently has AVG.

Spiceworks is reporting that it has Norton, not AVG. Norton does not appear on the start menu, add/remove programs, nor in the program files folders.

Any ideas why this would be occurring?

Thank you.

Run this utility. SW might be detecting some entries that still exist, that the uninstaller missed.

Many Antivirus programs do not clean up properly when uninstalled. Spiceworks assesses installed software from the HKLM\Software registry hive and any overhanging entries from uninstalled software can be detected as still installed.

You can edit the registry to remove overhanging entries, but that is quite dangerous to your OS or you can use a tool like CCleaner to clean the registry then run a new scan and it should clear up.

Norton is well known to not uninstall properly. It is so bad that it is even listed as malware by some very reputable vendors. It is almost certain that SpiceWorks is correctly reporting that some amount of the application is still installed.

I’ll have to give that a try when the machine isn’t in use (probably mid-day today). I’ll let you know if it worked.
