Just upgraded to Spiceworks 6. Now i am getting the email notification “ourdomain.org is not responding to ping” the monitor set is: Any Web Domain Domain cannot be reached. I can access and ping the domain just fine, it is ours, we have internet access, not sure why it is suddently notifying of this, what it means, and how to get rid of the alerts.

Attached is a screenshot of the monitor details in spiceworks.

We were getting this one too, not sure what was done if anything to correct it yet. Not my project, just an observation I made.

Jason,

Sending you a PM

It looks like in both cases the tracked domains are blocking icmp packets and thus don’t respond to ping. The domain is active on port 80. For these cases you can disable the attempt to track by ping by un-checking the box as seen in my screenshot.

We recently update spiceworks and have been receiving these emails constant. I have disabled the notification emails in the monitor & alert settings section. I have also tried unchecking the ping and port 80 check boxes on the individual domains in the cloud services section. We were still receiving the emails after making this change.

I then preceded to delete the domains from the cloud services section and am still receiving the alters. I have restarted the service multiple times as well as restarted the server. Still no luck! What can I do to get this to stop??

We also are getting notifications on this. I disabled the monitor but the emails that we’re receiving now are saying they were sent 8 hours ago. Is there a way to clear the queue of mail so we don’t have another 8 hours of getting these?

Unfortunately, if you are routing though the default Spiceworks Community email server there is no way to clear the queue. Because there can be latency issues with the community email server it is recommended that you configure Spiceworks to utilize your mail servers. This will help to ensure greater control around the latency of your email alerts.

As a short term workaround I would recommend putting a filter on your inbox for those messages. Sorry that you are getting spammed.

Here’s a related post: http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/244695-yourdomain-com-is-not-responding-to-ping

Updating a screen shot for where this “responds to ping” setting is in 7.0.

  1. Navigate to /cloud_services
  2. Click on the ‘Your domain registrar’ ribbon (parent ribbon of where you see your tracked domain)
  3. Click on the domain name
  4. Uncheck the boxes at the bottom

This is perfect! Thanks Brandon, I just came across the same problem but your solution worked.

my email address for notifications is set to XXX@gmail.com. I am receiving this " Any Web Domain Domain cannot be reached gmail.com is not responding to HTTP"

Any guidance, please?

Hello Brandon. I have almost the same problem with “gmx.ch”.Message:

“gmx.ch is not responding to HTTP”

I get stuck in Step 2. I don’t find something like “Your domain Registrar”

Can you give some advise?

Cheers,

Edward

The emailed alert you received should have some notes at the bottom that detail where the message came from and how to modify the settings (or disable it all together).

In my case the “Any Web Domain” error was generated a ‘monitor’ shown in the attached image below.

Since I’m just messing around with the software I disabled the email notification. If I decide to use Spiceworks in production I can always reconfigure the monitor and enable email again. You can go that route or you can completely remove the monitor.

On the Windows machine where I installed Spiceworks Inventory the “Any Web Domain” monitor is located at http://localhost/settings/monitors

Hope that helps…

To piggy-back on this question for newer SW versions (7.4+), if the “Domain cannot be reached” condition is set, does SW look at the domain controller to get a list of domains to monitor? I’ve come to the same conclusion with screen changes in Cloud Services as @eddeig.

We recently changed one of our domains from being hosted internally to an external provider, and for the last 24 hours or so, we have been getting notifications that the domain cannot be reached. The notification has been received anywhere from 1-1.25 hours, but now we’re well over 1.5 hours since the last message, so my guess is that any DC related changes took a while to propagate and for SW to see them. Thoughts?

Thank you.
