I’m looking for a video \ intercom button for our Shipping and Receiving door. I’m planning to get some quotes from a couple vendors but saw the UniFi options which looked like an easy option.

UniFi Protect G4 Doorbell

Looks like all it requires is one of these, correct?

UniFi Dream Machine Pro
UniFi Protect network Video Recorder
UniFi Cloud Key Plus

One of the Vendors is probably going to quote an Aiphone solution.

Any thoughts on these?

Thanks

I would strongly dis-recommend UniFi Protect for business use. I use UBNT for WiFi and have for years, excellent bang for the buck.

The Protect series of devices is a set of proprietary hardware that replaces an abandoned platform, also proprietary.

You won’t be saving money the first time you don’t have any avenue for support of your access control system.

Select qualified vendors and get quotes from pros that have hardware support from the factory.

Aiphone is a long established player in this field. Others are Viking Electronics , 2N and your top of the line Zenitel Stentofon and Commend as a few of the many examples of commercial solutions.

Would still recommend Aiphone but there are other ones that have tablet capability and WiFi and portable.

No to UniFi doorbell.

Sounds like lots of negative opinions regarding the UniFi Protect G4 Doorbell and UniFi Protect camera’s in general but why? I will probably go toward one of the more established player’s as mentioned but still wondering what are the issues with UniFi Protect Camera’s? Seems like a good option for home use if not business.

I find UniFi Protect and the proprietary devices perfectly usable for home, which is distinctly NOT a business. Those are two different domains of use cases. Please don’t confuse an advanced feature set with therefore being appropriate for business use.

Tread lightly with Ubiquiti. I used to love them until they EOL’s their entire UniFi Video line with something like 3-4 months heads up and then simply shut down all remote access for it as well. They don’t even (yet) have an NVR that works with Protect to replace large deployments.

TLDR: Ubiquiti makes good stuff, but they regularly EOL their lines and then you are SOL.

I know I am late to the party but incase anyone looks back at this, this has been my experience…

We have been using ADS Security for our door access since I started where I work seven years ago. We have two Aiphones at a couple of key entrances, magnetic locks on most doors and a couple of basic powered door latches on the remaining doors mostly running honeywell hardware and some other mainstream lock manufacturing hardware.

One of our longtime gripes was not being able to create badges in-house through the security company. They kept telling us they were working on it but it never came. After nearly a decade, I figured I had given them a long enough time to at least have an update.

Having already deployed UniFi switches, APs, and cameras throughout the facility as well as the new Dream Machine Pro when it came out, I started looking at their door access system. After thorough testing I decided to pull the trigger and move forward. This would result in A) the ability to control the doors internally and B) no monthly fee like we pay the security company (quite a bit, actually) once all doors were completed.

I am actually finishing the last door today and I am happy to say this has been a success and I am happy with the route we took. Yes, there were growing pains and learning moments, there is the upfront cost of the hardware and a couple of locks I replaced, including buying a couple of electronic push-bars to release the magnets with. But with what I will save the company after initial costs, it’s worth it assuming you have the budget. I’m going to get an extra hub, lite, and pro access unit to have as backups which is a standard practice of mine but things are working nicely and it’s all controlled through the UniFi portal which is extremely handy since I’m not always at my desk…ok, I’m rarely at my desk.

If you have any specific questions about it, let me know, I’d be happy to help out and answer but I figured I’ve typed plenty for now!

I have 50+ Unifi Protect cameras deployed throughout our facilities and they work perfectly fine. I just upgraded to the UNVR-Pro for our production cameras due to the sheer number of cameras since each production room and blending room has coverage. They hold up to the harsh environments with a lot of dust, humidity in our liquid production room, and outdoors. We have three UNVRs in total so we could maximize the total footage kept since we have it on continuous recording. Using 8TB seagate surveillance drives in them.

They are perfectly fine for home and business.
