Like any other year, I plan to use my powers as an IT guy to pull off epic April Fools Day pranks. Last year I spoofed the company news letter and told users about a new e-mail retention policy (1 day), as well as flipped some screens & swapped out some wallpapers.
This year I have two pranks setup and ready to deploy from simple powershell scripts!
- Prank #1 - For our office workers, I will be spoofing the Shoretel E-mail address and sending everyone three voice mails over a 3 minute period, all from Bill Lumbergh!
- Prank #2 - Shop PC’s will use Windows built in text to speech engine to state “For my next trick, I will open your CD drive, in 3, 2, 1.” and then just like the voice promised, the CD drive opens.
Anybody else have a plan in place? I’d love to hear about it!!

One I like seeing is pick a random applicance and print up a page that says “this has been upgraded with voice recognition. Please speak what you want me to do”.

My fiencee sent a text to her Mom, who is doing a lot of planning/paying for our upcoming wedding, saying that I am going to get to go to Las Vegas at the end of the month for work. On Apr 1, we’re going to send her a photoshopped picture of the two of us in front of a LV wedding chapel and tell her that we have eloped or something.
I just hope she realizes it’s a joke before she starts cancelling our reservations…

We’ve internally re-configured everyone’s signature block for their emails to be the name of a Care Bear, My Lil’ Pony or Transformer. We may need to go into GI Joe IP as we’re running low on names.

I have a user who is complained that he did not get dual monitors. I plan to remove his 19 Inch LCD and replace it with 2 functional 21 inch TUBES.

I’m not sure how much I can get away with. Seriously debating setting up a startup script on the public PCs in our library so at 8AM when they are booted up, they start playing the Star Wars theme at full volume. All thirty of them, at once. I think I’d best check the help wanted ads first, though.

I found that changing autocorrect settings can be fun. Especially when you set commonly used words to say something different, spelled backwards or translated into another language. Make sure to add the new words to the dictionary as well, so they don’t show up as typos.

I’m going to have to make some batch files I think… Been warming up with having coworker’s systems shutdown throughout their shift (probably the meaner one I’ve done), and closing out the web browser of the guy that shares my computer, then there’s the audio drivers disable/enable trick I played on another coworker…
But I have April 1st off, so all my stuff will need to be pre-programmed, lying in wait…

I know a math teacher at the college i’m going to. a number of years ago somone decided to call the math offices “Math land” I was thinking I should ask the teacher I know there sneak out none is looking put a sticky with a Y on it over the A in math make it Myth land. Then see how long before people notice.
I may try and do something on my dad put tape under his mouse or something see he figures it out. Maybe ask people there fridge is running and tell them to catch it.
