Well, my suitcase was full and i needed to bring home a laptop and 2 AP’s so i overloaded my spiceworld 2024 backpack and ripped one of the straps off going through TSA.. :sob: so while im in the market for a new backup figured i would see whats the other Pros rocking? im not a pack rat i don’t need my pack to hold EVERYTHING it does need to hold a 15in laptop laptop and phone charger, a screw driver and handful of little things but also anyone have idea for a breathable back? sometimes feels hot on my back and wondered if their is a more breathable one? ( not really keen on spending $100 on a osprey one from other internet searches)

bonus points if it comes in orange..

I have one similar to this…

:joy: but you want something more functional.

haha im about to go back to target and just snag one but im just unpleasable im tired of the $20 backpacks that last a year or so but will pound sand before i spend $200 USD on a backpack lol

I use this one, and carry most of my tools in it:

The goal was to have all my tools with me when I went to work on networking, because I found myself having to go back or find an alternative tool. This backpack has resolved those issues for me.

I do have a separate one that I got from MSI when I bought an MSI laptop that I use for just hauling my laptop with only a couple of tools.

Edit: The only complaint that I would mention is that due to how many tools it can carry, I have about 20 lbs of equipment in it and feel that is a bit heavy at times.

ah you like the red cult lol. yeah thats probably a bit over kill i have a duffle/rolling toolbox for when im doing real work. my edc bag is what im replacing so my tech and then a screwdriver for the occasional laptop or rack rail replacement. i just hate some backpacks feel so Thick on the straps and just immediately feel like im wearing a sherpa in vegas on my back

I do like Milwaukee, but am a bit more tool agnostic than that having a mix of Makita, Milwaukee, and Dewalt tools along with a few other brands.

Yes, it is a large tool backpack, so will likely fall in the “wearing a sherpa in vegas on my back.”

Milwaukee has some smaller options, but I have not used them myself. Please let us know what you end up getting and how you like it (and what you don’t like about it.)

I absolutely love my Rangeland laptop bag. It certainly wouldn’t win any fashion awards, but it is my go-to for all my travel, and I immediately throw the SW backpack in my suitcase and carry this one around everywhere instead. I love that it can be carried as a shoulder bag or as a backpack, has exterior drink pockets, and that it has some interior pockets for charger, pens, glasses, surge strip, etc. My favorite thing about it is that it has “top load access” so I can just set it in a chair and unzip the top for quick access to contents, as opposed to the typical backpack where I have to set it flat and unzip around the entire outside (if that makes sense). Unfortunately, it’s not available in orange. This thing holds a lot more than you would think by looking at the pictures.

My default is a 30lt military assault pack like this, which will take a couple of laptops with room to spare in the main section, has my tools in the lower outer pocket, my battery pack, charger and cables in the top one, and anything else I need in the middle section.
It also works nicely as a pack on my front when I’ve got my 100lt bergen on to go to festivals.

kinda like this approach the tote style, does it seem easy to overload?

6 Spice ups

yeah i like the individual smaller pockets not to easy to just overload one compartment. plus i can toss some of my goofy patches just sitting in my desk drawer on it

I have one very similar. I love the Velcro that you attach patches to.

Not sure, as I haven’t managed to overload it yet. I purchased it in 2022 and it has now been with me for 3 Spiceworlds and I’ve carried it to and from work every single work day as my laptop bag since I purchased. When I travel, it holds my laptop, a pair of flip-flops or sandals to change into when I go through TSA, a change of clothes for if/when my suitcase gets lost, a set of tools, reading glasses, laptop charger and power bank, and whatever swag didn’t quite fit in my luggage. Even with all of that, I’ve never had an issue zipping up the top and fitting it under the airplane seat in front of me, but yet it doesn’t feel at all bulky when all of the “extras” are out of there. I’m pretty hard on my stuff, and this thing doesn’t even have so much as a scuff on it, even after daily use for nearly 3 years. Like you, I wasn’t about to spend $100+ for one of the Swiss ones one of my buddies recommended, but wasn’t sure what I could expect for the price of this one. Needless to say, I’m incredibly happy with value, price and durability.

Overkill maybe, but looks like the 14 inch / 22 pocket one is on sale at Home Depot (at least that’s what it shows me). Might be in your price range.

I bought a Swissgear 2769 backpack several years ago. It has been extremely durable and can carry all my necessary things when I’m traveling. It does have a breathable back which seems to work well. Built-in glasses holder also a bonus. It’s probably on the upper-end of your budget, but the durability may make up for it. Previously I had a Dell backpack and it lasted only a couple years before looking ragged. This Swissgear pack still looks great after 5-6 years of me throwing it on/off and tossing it in the car between trips.

EDIT: forgot to mention the protection capability. This last winter I fell pretty hard in an icy parking lot. The pack took some punishment of that fall with me falling backwards. Both my 16" Macbook and portable monitor were not harmed when this happened. I was quite surprised this backpack protected them that well.

I really like mine and would cover what you want but it’s also from like 2003 so probably not available anymore. It’s a Targus, and mine is black, no idea what other colors it was available in. Definitely sturdy though since I’ve been using it daily for over 20 years and it’s still in good condition

I got this several years ago when the TSA was rabid about removing laptops from backpacks. I still use it today.

It looks like Targus makes a lot of backpacks. Do you know the model, or do you know a similar model?

20 years is impressive.

I have purchased the same backpack twice because I love the storage configuration. The first one lasted me two years of daily use, pulling out and packing up my laptop multiple times a day (I travel between 7 or so different locations depending on the day). The one warning I have is, be nice to the main zipper; It tends to be stiff and that is how I ripped the first one. You cannot just grab and pull it open either. I have been more careful with the second one and I am over the two year mark with it. Check it out HERE .
PS I will take the bonus points because, yes, it comes in ORANGE.

I use the Targus Drfiter II backpack.

I don’t know the model and when I checked their site nothing they had looked similar to mine. Not too surprising considering the time frame. Mine looks mostly like a backpack from the 90s with 3 pockets and the main one have a padded area inside for the laptop. Then also has 2 small pockets on the sides that I always found convenient for smaller things I wanted to keep separate and then also has 2 elastic mesh pockets on the front as well that I’ve mostly used for things like wallet, keys, and phone when I’ve had to crawl into tight spaces.
