I’m a extremely big hands on learning type of guy. Does anyone know of some good online courses that can help me with my CCNA cert? Or maybe just any form of good learning tools? Thanks

If you don’t mind spending a bit of money, Global Knowledge offers ICND 1 and ICND 2 in a self-paced e-learning environment. I don’t know how their online classes are, but I enjoyed the one in-person class I took from them.

I bought the Cisco Press Official Certification Guide for CCENT/CCNA ICND1 640-822 and the disc that came with it has some practice tests on it as well as Cisco’s CCNA ICND1 Network Simulator, Lite Edition and some videos.

My plan is to read and know this book and pass the ICND 1 test. I also have a Cisco router and switch available to me for some hands on stuff; so that always helps, too.

Thanks Mixon, I’ll look into that. I do have the Cisco Certification Guide and find it to be a huge bore. Meaning, that I won’t be able to soak in the information they are giving.

One more thing I almost forgot. You can go to the Cisco Learning Network page, here , and then click on the ‘Study/Learn’ link that is located by the name of the test you are studying for and Cisco has some stuff online that will help you prepare. Some of those videos are free to watch and others you have to buy, but it’s there.

You will have to register for a free account with Cisco to be able to view this material.

I just took ICND1 recently and will be taking ICND2 in a few weeks.

One thing that’s helped me in prep is ebay. 2950 switches can be had for as little as $30. I grabbed a few to build a home lab to play with.

I also found the official material to be very boring. The Sybex book by Lammle is a much better read, so if you’ve got the cash, check it out.

There is also a lot of free stuff out there you should check out. I know of at least one youtube channel that could be of decent help, and the company Ine is offering up free streaming of a CCNA bootcamp video series if you register on their site.

I’m a “hands on” guy too. The GNS3 Workbench is a virtual lab environment to help you with the CCNA and beyond. Another option is to install GNS3.

Then visit GNS3 Labs website .

And a $10.00/month subscription to Safari Books Online gets you access to five Cisco Press and other CCNA study guides.
