For the past few months now, our office has been receiving calls from an unknown caller asking to give us “free” information about VoIP, provided we give them our email. No matter how many times we say no they are persistent as all H3LL. They called me (no longer the Sys Admin) 6-7x in a 2 week span, then moved on to my supervisor for a month and have returned to calling me. Supposedly a different person each time that swears they have never called us before.
We tried to be nice, we tried to be mean, recently I have just told them that I will transfer them to “Steve” our new phone guy and just leave them on hold until they hang up. We have no idea who they are, or how to get them to stop calling. They seem to becoming from California and/or from the UK (Country code 44)
Any ideas?

I set up a junk e-mail box for this, and gave it to them. They never sent the white paper. They called about one a month, same question, gave them the same e-mail, they never sent it. Finally I told them look, you guys call me, I say sure send me the info, and you never send it so why do you bother? They stopped calling after that.

Make sure to file a complaint: Stop Unwanted Robocalls and Texts | Federal Communications Commission
I make sure to do it every time I get a spam call; not certain it always helps, but goes quickly.
On mobiles, I use a call blocker. We have one and there are many options out there to choose from.

These are lead list sellers verifying their leads by using some bogus white paper as an excuse to ask some questions.

The best/worst thing you can do to them is waste their time. Putting them on hold is probably a good way to do that.

If they are a legit company and legit from the US (and you’re from the US and they at least have offices here?) , RECORD THE CALLS! Just ask some basic information about them, verify the company information about who they are and check online for the physical address.
I’ve gotten some nice settlements from companies that won’t stop calling after I’ve repeatedly asked them to stop. In one case I was even put on a call several times with their management because I told them I’d be willing to share the recordings with them so they could better train their staff. (I’m the IT director of a call center and they broke a lot of rules)
I guess each state is different. I didn’t even have to go to court for them, usually once they receive a cease and desist with a threat of going to court they usually try to settle. For your company it could be a nice “bonus”. I’ve made about 6K off of companies that do this, but depending on your state and how crazy they get, you can get up to 10K per company.

What kind of PBX do you have? Are they calling from a specific number?
If so, start tracking it and most systems allow you to block telephone numbers right in the PBX. You can send them to busy/congestion, fast-busy, etc.
Also, if it’s not always the same number, but is frequent, you could also record the date/time and phone number the call is received.
You can then contact the telephone company and ask them for a report on the call. They might be able to say where it’s from and/or they can likely block the call right on their end too.
