/Rant

I just spent 4 days of my vacation/sick leave in the last 3 weeks because I caught 2 different bugs that people have brought into the office. Then takes me a good sizable day to catch up with the backlog of work.

3 weeks ago I caught a bug that caused me to lose 13lbs in 3 days. Just yesterday stayed home with fever and aches. Why don’t people stay their asses at home when they know they’re sick and stop lying to themselves and everyone else by saying it’s just sinuses or something lame like that. Then spend all day contaminating everything int he office. ARRRRG!

/Rant over.

15 Spice ups

I concur, pisses me off to no end. How about the single mom who has no sick days left and cant afford to take a day off but is getting everyone else sick. to make it worse its around the holidays.

I am right there with you man.

How exactly did you get it?

You can make tons of money by patenting your “weight loss” idea!

That’s how the T-virus spreads!

Agreed.

We had a manager tell someone that they had to come in to the office with a fever recently. We had to go to senior management and be like “um, we can’t all get sick and this guy is passed out on his desk… this is just screwing everyone.”

My place of work here is no better…I’m here with about every sinus cavity clogged in some way. I can’t concentrate at all…I’m staring into space half the time or turning my eyes away from the monitor because I can feel the sinus pressure behind my eyes.

I don’t want to be here but because I got sick a few days earlier this year they make me get freakin doctor notes or I can’t come back to work. Since its just a bad cold I can’t exactly just go to the doctor. It’s freakin stupid. Oh yeah and that was put in place by the highest of managers here where I work.

Oh yeah and I caught this because sick people came into work…

Thanks for letting me rant. Some days I wish I could literally smack some sense into people…especially management.

Before you get sick, right when you start feeling a little bit sick, even the minor of things, take Echinacea. 2 that day.
Works for me every time, haven’t gotten sick in years.

I got sick at lunch last week but stayed because my boss would have thought I was faking. She went home with a sore foot. When I got home and took my temp is was 100°

I wish it was that easy. I have chronic sinus issues that I’ve had surgery for already (polyps and deviated septum) and they still aren’t the best.

Seriously guys the first night you are feeling the illness come on drink a hot whiskey with a slice of lemon and some cloves in it. Then wrap yourself up in loads of blankets. It’s tough going but you’ll sweat it out.

^^ This

Ethan I have sinus as well, while they might not be chronic I took Echinacea for 2 years, now its like I have no sinus at all.
I take Vitamin C1K mg a day. Echinacea just when I’m about to get sick.

I’m not a hand washer - just never have been.

I’m not a dirtball, I shower regularly and all.

Just never really washed my hands throughout the day.

I suspect that’s why I never really get sick.

I come into contact with a wide enough spectrum of foreign germs to keep by immune system inoculated against most things.

The rest of you should just grab a hunk of gum from under the theater seat every now and then.

I’ve had employers force me to work while I was sick. it sucks.

Thankfully the last couple of places I worked at my mangers weren’t into slave labor.

I carry sanitising gel with me while at work, and use it after touching any equipment outside of my office. There are always sick kids in primary education as parents only get 1 day off here to organise childcare for the term of the illness.

You think there are any babysitters who want to stay in with a sick child? No. So they get sent back to school.

I have never worked in a place where this was a problem. Never really understood the motivation. Most of us are not going to thinnk someone is staying home “faking it” unless they have a rep for doing that.

If you are sick, and think it might be contagious, stay home with my blessings.

Around here they want you to drag yourself in no matter what. Then again around here it is a issue if you are family orientated, or if you take off the time that the company’s policies allow.

I completly understand where you are coming from with people coming in sick. I am currently just getting over a cold - but im sure i will get sick again because everyone else in the office also currently has a cold.

The problem is that we do not get paid sick time - we can use vacation days to cover us being off sick - but if we dont then we are not paid. So as you can imagine we have people who are clearly sick and will spread germs but dont have a choice but come in sick because they need the money.

Forgetting that some people don’t get sick time, (I know when I am sick I don’t care if I lose a days pay) but have you ever tried to call out sick at some places? I have two jobs, my IT job, calling out sick they have never given me a hassle, and I have been here less than two years. I have been at my other job for nearly 9 years, the other job is caring for and transporting the sick and injured for a commercial Ambulance Service. They give you a hassle when you call out sick, they also reserve the right to request an MD note, just what I want, lose a days pay cause I feel like crap yet I still have to get up and go pay a copay to see my MD to get a note for my employer and tell me that I need lot’s of rest because I have a viral infection and rest is the only thing that will really help me get better. Trust me unless I feel like I am on death’s door it is easier to go in. That said I have worked with fevers, I have gone to work looking like death and guess what management doesn’t suggest I go home.

Guys, Emergen-C is your friend.

Had a boss that felt the same way. Always made it a point to make sure I shared whatever I had with him! Not entirely professional, but the deep satisfaction seeing him throw up was well worth it.
