So, my son is sick today. I called in “sick”.

How many people still work on their sick days? I’ll be remoting into my computer shortly to finish the data mining project I started this week, and probably spending most of the day working on it.

Anyone else do this?

Well I would ONLY do that if I could count it as worked time. I would then work as much as I could to consider it a full day or almost full.

Since that is not how it is here now, I work 0.

Quite often actually. If I am sick enough to stay home, I’ll be sleeping. If it is one of my boys, the boss let’s me work remotely if need be to save those sick days.

When then kids are sick, I just remote in and work from home. Bosses are cool with it, they know I can do my job from home, they just like to keep an eye on everyone. so the odd day is cool with them.

No money no work.

If I can log the hours at home spent on the project and get paid then yes I will do work at home and at off hours. If not, then I don’t do the work.

The few days I’ve had to call in sick I always wind up checking my work email a couple times during the day and if it’s something I can fix remotely/something I can direct the person where/who to go to I take care of it. Which also usually results in them telling me to go back and rest and stop checking my work email.

If I’m not in the office, NO. If they call me, sick time gets revoked and I go onto office time.

Last 3 times I took off. Holiday in Florida, on Friday I get a phone call at 4:00, they got cryptowall. Had to remote in and restore, remove, refresh. Came back Monday to fix. 6 hours straight time, 6 hours vacation removed.

Wednesday took off for wifes birthday, users laptop wouldn’t get online and no-one knew how to enable WiFi. 30 hours straight time, 30 minutes vacation time removed.

Wednesday got a hole in my ceiling full of bugs. User downloaded a trojan, no-one knew what to do, spent 2 hours sending emails every 5 minutes from my attic with a respirator on. 2 hours of straight time, 2 hours sick leave removed.

If you’re interrupting my time, you’re paying em for it and I’m reacquiring my leave or annual leave for my personal use. no point in wasting it.

If it were to come down to it and I was home with a sick kid, I could work from home if I needed to. Granted, I’m only 10 min from the office, but still, most of everything I do can be done remotely.

My new boss is cool with me working from home today, so I think that means I’ll get paid for it. Hard to say because I’m a contractor, and technically shouldn’t get paid if I’m not at work.

I assume I’ll get paid for today. If not, it won’t happen again. Have a great day everyone!

^^This i’m calling in sick then i’m going to be on the sofa/bed watching TV and sleeping. If one of the kids are ill I always login and do things while sat watching My Little Pony/Big Hero 6/Harry Potter etc.

What is this ‘sick’ you speak of?

When I’m well enough to get up from my bed, I’m well enough to go to work. Don’t think I’ve clocked any sick days since I’ve worked at my current job (6 years and counting).

If a kid is sick tho, I figure I will be able to do some work from home. Comapny is flexible enough to do so. But I wouldn’t call in sick because of it. Probably :slight_smile:

Had to do this yesterday… I had a splitting headache and the lights weren’t helping. Luckily it’s very easy for me to work from home!

It’s true… too bad there isn’t one. But… I’m online anyways. Maybe there should be a spiceworks badge for people who go on Spiceworks even if they aren’t at work…

Right? It sucks when I come back from being sick or on vacation and I have PMs and mentions, wish there was something I could put on my profile or something to let people know that I’m not currently in the office.

Feature request?! IDK how the heck it could be done… But I try to let a few of the MODs know when I go OOF for any extended period of time.

There’s a long-standing feature request for this. I’m actually not sure what the status of it is. The CM Team is totally on board for this. :stuck_out_tongue:
