Recently promoted, I am looking to sharpen my IT skill set and give myself some more street cred. with some fresh acronyms on my business cards.
Anyone have any recommendations? There are a ton of “IT Certification Training” providers, and I’d like to hear about anyone’s personal experiences first hand. Thanks gang for any feedback!

Well, what are you doing? Usually you get certs around that?
Are you looking for a specific certification?
New Horizons actually offers a wide variety vendor-approved courses (associated with certifications and specific skills you want to learn) for top technology providers like Adobe, Cisco, Citrix, Microsoft, VMware, etc.
Go ahead and take a glance if you’re interested: http://www.nhcomputerlearning.com/

I want to pursue my MCSE at this point. As well as VMWare.

You’d need to shoot for the MCSA first, then MCSE:

Yeah New Horizons and I heard good things about Global Knowledge
The VMware VCP needs you to take a class anyways (I took it at a Community College for $$ reasons…)
For the MCSE, I never had a real training class, I can recommend the usual sources and hands on labbing.
- Catalog | Cybrary
- MVA (Micrososft Virtual Academy)
- CBT Nuggests / Pluralsight
- Home Lab…

We use Pluralsight and CBT Nuggets here, and have been happy with both products.

Thanks for the feedback Buz!
I met a rep from CBT Nuggets on the plane last year to SpiceWorld; I was really interested in the concept of the monthly subscription = all access training. But at the time, I was so busy, rebuilding a network, adding fiber, & VoIP and building new VM servers, that this is the first I’ve had a chance to address a training plan for my department.

@eaglecity2315 , Do you remember who you talked to on the plane?
Glad you’re ready to get some new acronyms! First, we recently made a few changes to the subscription you should know about. You now get basically all the things with every CBT Nuggets subscription – unlimited Transcender practice exams, awesome trainers doing awesome training, Virtual Labs, your own personal Accountability Coach, and access to the Learners Community.
And, yes, we absolutely have both VMWare and MCSA/MCSE training.
Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to answer them for you!
Hey Annie!
Like said above you’ll want to start on your MCSA first. Do you know what area you would be most interested in? It sounds like you are quite busy and could benefit from having access to training year round. If you would like to check out a 7 day free trial from KnowledgeNet let me know. Make sure to check out all the great vendors and see what fits your learning style before you buy!
Let me know if you need any help and good luck
I definitely recommend cybrary.it, I don’t think I would’ve gotten my A+ without it. Working on my Net+ now. I like the way that they explain the material in the videos. Very down to earth and easy to grasp.
